Siora, a rebel imprisoned for defying a prince; Madeline, a bookstore owner trying to care for the children in her town; and Oscar, the magnanimous griffon courier who tirelessly delivers letters between them that spark their love story.
In her quiet bookstore, Madeline sheltered the children the crown wanted gone. She always tried to keep her head down. She never meant to fall in love. Least of all, with the leader of the rebellion, trapped away in a magic tower.
Siora's revolution ended in chains. Captured and sentenced to solitary confinement in a lonely tower, she had all but given up until Madeline's first letters arrived. Now, with only days of freedom left, she's found love. But is it already too late?

🗝️🔓Desktop/Mobile Wallpaper Set: We hope you're enjoying the vibes of the book. We have some fun desktop and mobile wallpapers made so you can take them on the go.
🗝️🔓Paper Upgrade & Desktop Icons Set: We will upgrade the paper quality of every printed book to 100# paper. This will give the books a higher-quality feel and they'll be much more durable. We didn't want digital backers to feel left out though, so we're going to add a few desktop icons as well.
🔒Collectable Card Set: To every pledge level, we'll add 4 collectable cards: Siora, Madeline, Oscar, and the Prince. Digital backers will get digital versions of the files to print. Each card will include a little background for each character.
🔒Two New Vinyl Stickers: Physical backers will get 2 three-inch vinyl stickers added to their pledge with a new design. We'll release the designs as we get closer to the goal.
🔒Art Team Bonus: It's really important that everyone we work with is getting paid as much as we can. If we fund at this level, we'll increase the page rate for illustrator Deborah Hauber and letterer Hailey Rose-Lyon so they get paid more for their work.
🔒Oscar Cover: Stacey Lee drafted two amazing covers for Bound by Words, but so far, we've only gotten one completed. At this level, we'll add a new Oscar cover to the mix and offer it up as an add-on after the campaign is cover.
Deborah Hauber (she/her) is a freelance illustrator who's worked with Dark Horse, Legendary Entertainment and more. She enjoys bringing characters to life to tell immersive stories, with a fantasy twist. Outside of art, she is an avid reader and can often be found hanging out with her two ginger cats on the couch, watching anime or playing video games.
Mark Romero (he/him) is the writer for the comic “Incident Report." His work has been featured in several anthologies including “Concrete Arcanum: Living with Monsters” and “Not So Fair Tales," and now is working on his first solo title with "Bound by Words." He loves telling character driven genre stories with a touch of magic and is one fourth of creator-owned indie publisher Attic Door Media.
Claire (she/her) is a freelance comic editor and cartoonist. She was a features editor at Women Write About Comics for six years, and Editor in Chief 2017-2018. She still writes for WWAB, as well as ComicsMNT and Shelfdust. Among others, Claire edits Hari Connor's award winning Finding Home, the activist-memoir La Voz de M.A.Y.O. Tata Rambo and is currently editing the story comics magazine BUN&TEA, as well as her own comic, The Magic Necklace.
Haley Rose-Lyon (she/they) is a writer of things, editor of stuff, and letterer of comics. She's lettered for Image Comics, Oni Press, Legendary Comics, and many more. When not hunched over her computer, she enjoys pouring latte art and belting emo covers as part of St. Louis's own Silly Little Emo Band.
REN (he/they) is an illustrator and comic creator with a strong appreciation for colorful characters and forging stories that resonate with people. Originally from Michigan, USA, he is now based in The Netherlands, navigating his newfound home as an independent artist. These days he is taking on commissions and other freelance projects as he builds his next great story.
Natasha Alterici (she/her) is an artist and writer living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, best known for the hit queer Viking fantasy Heathen. She is currently working on Wild Flowers, due out in 2026. In addition to her creator works, she's also worked on Gotham Academy: Yearbook, The Lez Film Review, Dinosaur Project, Mixed Signals, The Wilds, The Good Fight, Vagrant Queen, Forgotten Home, and so much more! When not working, she enjoys gardening, baking, and playing video games with her wife and their three cats.
Fell Hound (she/her) is a Ringo nominated illustrator/writer who’s worked with Boom!, IDW, Scout, A Wave Blue World, and many more. She’s best known for creating the critically acclaimed Commander Rao, the motorcycle jousting romance S.I.R., as well as her love of drawing sword women. When not giving herself rampant carpal tunnel, she enjoys re-watching Witch from Mercury, playing video games, and consuming queer fiction.
Stacey Lee (she/her) is a star artist, most recognized for her work on Marvel’s Spider-Verse, Silk, the Unstoppable Wasp, and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge! Over the course of her career, she has worked with Marvel, DC, BOOM!, Valiant, and IDW. Stacey is a supporter of younger readers seeing themselves represented in comics, and especially loves being able to depict women and young girls in strong, powerful roles.
Vash Taylor (they/them) is a concept artist and Illustrator based in Toronto, Canada, where (with the help of their two cats) they make comics, write books and work on the occasional video game. With a love of Sci-Fi, history and the fantastical, it's no surprise that their work combines all three, focusing on visual world building and their own experiences as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. They're most known for their work on the GLAAD nominated Galaxy: The Prettiest Star (DC), Critical Role and Ambrosia Sky (Soft Rains).
