The campaign is launching in less than 2 hours! Here's a reminder that all backers for physical goods will also receive this rad fridge magnet. See you shortly!
Thank you for showing up for my strange but beautiful new project. Because of you we are funded - and nearing our first bonus goal, too! *party music*
I appreciate so much that these stories will be getting the deluxe treatment I always wanted for them, and I know you are going to love the result, too.
A little further and we'll unlock our first extra-deluxe bonus goal: custom chapter art. Fingers crossed!
Meanwhile thank you again, and best of wishes, Chally x

Tim here, writer of Rabbit Stew. Some of you may know me, others may not.
My normal sphere of activity is writing role-playing games and running an independent publishing company that gets my games, and those of a number of other creators, out into the world.
In that realm, this first update would likely be celebrate our funding and thank everyone who helped us get achieve our goal.
However I'm creating a comic. Not something I have a proven form in? As of writing this, I am unfunded and completely at peace with that.
This is me stepping into a new world, pushing out from a familiar shore as I put it to Adam Holloway, a friend and fellow writer who also has a live campaign *.
That said, I've read enough comics to be inspired. I've also read a heap of books ** á la Good Will Hunting.
As with everything I do, I will put all I can into it to create something, rather selfishly, for me. This is how I've always worked: with the confidence that there are other people like me who will also want to see it.
It's exciting, but also humbling.
I'm also thankful to have found Ezequiel Rubio. I had almost given up on creating this comic until I discovered him in the depths of a thread on the hellhole that is Reddit.
Over the coming weeks, I'll be dropping my thoughts about process: what I did definitely did wrong, what I think I did right and what the results were. I'll also be talking a bit more about this world I am bringing you into. A world that will follow the Wade family for several decades. I've already started work on part 2 and I intend to put a teaser in the back of this comic.
I'll also share some more pages. I might even mention Cowmageddon.
That's my pitch for you to keep following and maybe even back this project.
Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments of these updates.
That's all for now.
Wishing you a spectacular weekend.
Tim x
* This is also a collab with my campaign. When you back both, you will receive a free two-page crossover comic.

The Trailer For Book 2 Has Been Released!
A 33-day labor of love! When Southwest Gothic was robbed in the editor fiasco, I essentially planned to step away from the project. But then, I got an email about Printopia and I kinda thought, 'maybe I'll give this another shot.' And then, I did a market in Denver, and I met a magical human who had ultimately become Southwest Gothic's new editor. I started this trailer on August 1st and I finished it on September 3rd--a blink of time in comparison to the months it took me to create Book 1's trailer.
Don't tell Book 1's trailer this... but I like it more. I dunno why. There's just some sort of urgency about it. I also know a hell of a lot more about Final Cut Pro (check out that car flip, you guys) than I did back in 2025. Anyway, I'm really proud of it. If you wouldn't mind giving it a like and a comment on YouTube, I'd be so grateful. Projects like mine are entirely dependent on the support it gets from you guys. Without your engagement, the algorithm just casts us aside to the dark depths of the internet.
Campaign Kicks Off Thursday at 11am MDT!! See You Then--Let's Get Spooky!!
"It was beautiful – a little crude, but breathtaking all the same. Kane had gone through a phase of impalement in the nineties, when the idea of new and exciting tools and methods of death inspired him. This particular posing of the victim, with the pooling of blood directed to an engraved spiral beneath the corpse, was a mirror image of his first attempt at the art-form. He was lost for words." A Dying Art
I hope everyone is having a day – now I'm either going to spoil it (or make it better) with some added horror.
PDF samples have been uploaded to Backerkit for both short stories and the novel. All you have to do is Follow the campaign, and you should be able to access them one of two ways:
Through the "Your Digital Rewards" section of your Backerkit account (clicking here).
Going through the main campaign page and clicking the link at he top in green text that reads "You are following this project. We emailed your rewards — view them in your account." (clicking here).
Please note that while it does say it's been emailed to you, it doesn't look like Backerkit's actually done that. Super helpful! Using the links above should fix that, though.
Cover Reveal Ben's art has always really captivated me on all the projects we've worked together on. I'm really excited to be able to show off what he's working on for one of the book covers here. He's opted for a style closer to painting brush strokes than heavy line work, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results.

Not long to go now, so please keep sharing the campaign with anyone who might enjoy it – and thank you again for all your support so far!
As I mentioned before, this book has been over 20 years in the making—if you count the original script, which was written a very long time ago. Over the years, I’ve refined some of the details, but the core story and its focus have remained intact.
And now, just a few days before the crowdfunding campaign begins, the entire book is ready to go to print.
Well… almost.
There are a few extra pages that will depend on YOU.
Throughout the campaign, I’ll be posting polls and updates to let you get involved in the action. These pages are already part of the story, but they’re designed as pure, unrestrained zombie carnage sequences.
We’re talking two full pages plus a massive central splash page.
And here’s where things get really interesting:
One of the pledge tiers gives you the chance to have your likeness incorporated directly into these pages.
That’s right.
YOU get to die in the book.
And you’ll even get a say in how it happens.
So while I’m putting the finishing touches on this 20+ year project, you can help decide exactly how some of the victims meet their gruesome fate.
The campaign launches in just a few days. Until then, please keep spreading the word, sharing the campaign page, and getting your fellow horror freaks ready.
The final chapter is coming. And this time, YOU might not survive it.
The manuscript went off to its new editor last week and I'm not gonna lie: I was pretty emotional. Book 2 has had one hell of a journey. I wrote it across multiple states, in campgrounds, on trains and planes, and in a few living situations. It's where the heart of the series was truly born.
Book 1 was intended to stand alone but when I finished it, new characters snuck their way into my brain. One of them (Sam), has ended up becoming one of my absolute favorites. His tragedy, addiction to productivity, and sweet but mysterious manner is sure to win your heart. His, Lilith's, and Lucio's talismans will be available as backer rewards with this campaign and I'm so excited about them!
This One Counts
Books 3-5 have already been written. Book 6 is in progress as we speak. This campaign is the pinch point for the series, so every pledge, share, interaction counts. If you read Book 1, please consider leaving a review on Goodreads, Amazon, Storygraph, etc. If you follow me on social media, comment or reshare posts--the algorithm notices. I'm a very small creator with an incredible amount of distance from the success of Star Cross'd Destiny, so I am very much dependent on these small acts to get in front of new people. You're the heroes of Southwest Gothic. Thank you so much for helping it get this far.
so shiny. so sexy.
Pledge Reservations are Open for Only 11 More Days! This is your only chance to get a mini-poster with sparkly foil inlay--the shiniest art I've ever offered. You'll get your choice of character doing an epic power move but only if you opt in before the campaign launches on September 10th.
