Project FAQ
If you pick this level, the BA/MMT team will reach out and ask you some basic questions about what your mermaid. You get to tell us their name, preferred gender pronouns, their likes and dislikes, and some other info. The BA/MMT team will take that information and create a short text blurb based on your responses. This will be included in the book with the artwork we select to pair it with. You can request a particular mermaid if you wish, but are not promised you'll get that one assigned to you, though we will try our best. All final text will be edited for content and length and approved by BA/MMT only.
The art is being created by a group called Mad Boogie Designs out of Brazil. They have also supplied art for Lorcana cards and other games.
No, the art is being finalized with the design team before printing of the final book. Art is currently 85-95% complete.
It's probably not possible to play Fish Out of Water solo, due to the nature of support required from other players to overcome challenges. For example, a single challenge may require Time and Money, but a single mermaid can only supply one of these items. Their friends have to help cover the other challenge costs in order to succeed. This game is about friendship, mutual support, and task completion for group success.
Nope, nope, nope. This game was written by Jared with collaboration from Lindsey, drawn by Mad Boogie Designs, and other processes all handled by real people. Use of Adobe and related products for image editing and lay-out was handled by humans (and mermaids) without the use of any AI built-in tools. Making great games with great art is a labor of love and creative process. None of which is replaceable by AI processes.
Once project manufacturing is completed, backers will be notified via a campaign update. This campaign update will have a final survey completion date. If your survey is not completed, and your shipping costs not paid by the completion date, you will forfeit your pledge payment and rewards. We will not fulfill forfeited rewards and pledge levels after the completion date. If you back the Name a Mermaid level you must submit the requested information by the set date, and have completed your survey and payment to be included in this level. If you pledge level has Mermaid Friend, your name will be included as noted in your survey, or your BackerKit name will be included if you have paid for the pledge level but not completed your survey.
Refunds or Exchanges All items are final sale (No Refunds, Cancellation, or Exchanges). Please let us know if there are any concerns with your products. Backers are also responsible for providing the correct address. In the event of undelivered mail that is the fault of the courier, tracked shipments (which include insurance coverage), will allow for a new package to be re-mailed. For undelivered mail at the fault of the recipient (i.e. Incorrect address provided; package not picked up and returned to the post office), with the tracked shipment option or not, the package will be deemed to be delivered and no refund or re-mailing requests will be accepted. If you believe your items were damaged in transit, please reach out to us immediately and attach photos of the damaged item(s).
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
