PDF Downloads Available! Early Bird and Tabletop Tavern Freebies Too!
An image of a Caucasian person sweeping their hair back to expose their hearing aid and dice earring. They hold a pen between their fingers and have a sunflower on their bracelet. To their right is a soundwave pattern.
Hi listeners.

I am so, so excited—and admittedly rather nervous—to announce the download links for Midnight in Jubilation are on their way to your inboxes as you read this update! All documents have now been reviewed by my accessibility consultant and are ready for use! Following their good advice, I’ve made a lower size, lower resolution version of the graphics PDF available for download too, which is also screen reader compatible. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the file size of the primary graphics PDF under 20 megabytes without losing some image quality, so while I recognise a lower resolution version isn’t exactly ideal, I hope this supports anyone who needs a version under 15 megabytes.

If you have any troubles with the downloads, please let me know via my support email: [email protected], so I can look into it.

In further exciting news, the shipping rates have now been approved in the pledge manager and I have finished checking over a good portion of the books! Given the sheer number of you who so generously supported my campaign at the physical tiers, I’ve also been considering how best to make the packaging and shipping stage more manageable from here.

My current thinking is that I will still send out the notification shortly about locking addresses, but then look at dividing the parcels up into smaller batches. This means that rather than charging everyone at once for shipping, I’ll be aiming to put the charges through a few days before I start working on that batch of parcels, and you won’t be charged too far in advance of your book being ready to post.

Thank you all for your ongoing support!

For today’s song recommendations I’d like to leave you with Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell and I Wanna Be Adored by Black City Lights.

Latest on Shipping for Midnight in Jubilation
An image of a Caucasian person sweeping their hair back to expose their hearing aid and dice earring. They hold a pen between their fingers and have a sunflower on their bracelet. To their right is a soundwave pattern.
Hi listeners.

The last box of books has arrived! I’ve put a pause on checking through them so I could assemble some test parcels and determine the final shipping costs. Although thus far they all seem to have arrived in a great condition! With that in mind, these are the final rates I have determined for shipping and uploaded into BackerKit for review. I understand the review process might take a few business days.

Softcover/Hardcover Only (in AUD)
Asia: $29.50
Australia: $14
Canada: $32.50
Europe: $38
New Zealand: $24
United Kingdom: $38
United States: $34.50

Multi-Book Order Shipping (in AUD)
Asia: $42
Australia: $18.50
Canada: $46
Europe: $52.50
New Zealand: $31.50
United Kingdom: $52.50
United States: $50

IMPORTANT: As I have highlighted before, and outlined in the campaign FAQ, you will be responsible for paying any value-added taxes, import taxes or fees if your country enforces them. The above costings don't take these into account as I am not charging for them.

Once I’ve received approval, and there are no further feedbacks or tweaks to make, I will send final notifications about locking addresses, and charge shipping after that. This will give you a chance to update your shipping information for a final time before parcels are assembled. It also means there will be no risk of your address changing after the parcels have already been sent.

Then once I start the packing process in earnest, I’ll reach out via email if I notice any challenges in getting Australia Post to automatically recognise addresses. I have already noticed some quirks with manual entry being required for Canadian apartment addresses, so have reached out to a few folks already to confirm the best format to use, and will be flagging it as well with Australia Post during their business hours.

Today’s song recommendations were rather tricky to decide, as there are quite a few that I’ve been enjoying lately! But for now, I will leave you with You Fascinate Me So by Blossom Dearie, Brother by The Hound + The Fox, and Tarantula by This Mortal Coil.

Work Continues on Midnight in Jubilation!
An image of a Caucasian person sweeping their hair back to expose their hearing aid and dice earring. They hold a pen between their fingers and have a sunflower on their bracelet. To their right is a soundwave pattern.
Hi listeners.

It’s been a very productive weekend for me here as I sat down and finished working on both of the final PDF documents for the game: the graphics and text-only versions. Following the previous advice from my accessibility consultant I believe I’ve gotten them to a very good state! I’m looking forward to getting them professionally reviewed for screen-reader compatibility; hopefully towards the end of July when my consultant returns from a well-earned holiday.

Once those two documents have been reviewed, I should be able to distribute the downloads for all the digital rewards via the pledge manager. This includes the character sheet, and where applicable, the Early Bird Reward and Tabletop Tavern Freebie. I was hesitant to send out those bits and pieces before the game itself was ready to download as I felt you wouldn’t be getting the most out of them otherwise.

I’m also very excited to say that some of the books are in the post to me, and some have already arrived! My plan is to go through the boxes once they all arrive, check the books over, and then turn my attention to preparing parcels for shipping.

As I am doing this by myself, this may be a somewhat slow process as I test wrapping materials, weight, and work out what the postage costs will be for the final packages. My understanding is that once I know the weights and costs from Australia Post, I’ll be able to upload them in the pledge manager, and then give folks notice before I start locking addresses. I will also be including tracking information and am working out how to upload that into the pledge manager as well.

Hope you’re all having a good weekend too, as I leave you with today’s song recommendation of Another Girl, Another Planet by the Only Ones.

Update: Books in Production!
An image of a Caucasian person sweeping their hair back to expose their hearing aid and dice earring. They hold a pen between their fingers and have a sunflower on their bracelet. To their right is a soundwave pattern.

Hi listeners.

I am very pleased to say that the physical books for Midnight in Jubilation are now in production! I finalised the order this morning after reviewing the latest proofs and I’ve received confirmation its now progressed to the production stage. I’m honestly both nervous and excited to receive the books, and have been laughing with my family about how and where I will be storing them in the house as I work through the shipping process.

What this all means is that I have formally closed the pre-order store and sent out notifications to those who placed an order post-campaign. This is a heads up that cards will be charged for those pre-orders in the next few days. I’m then going to be making a start on preparing the accessible PDF versions of the game, reflecting the final tweaks made to the document as I set up for printing.

I’m also reviewing the process of adding shipping fees in BackerKit and will be doing some testing of different package combinations to get the weights as accurate as possible. This includes looking at what kind of packing materials to use inside the rigid mailers to protect the books in transit. Just as a reminder, I am not charging value-added taxes, import taxes, etc, as I am not working with a fulfilment partner to prepare and send out the parcels. You will be responsible for paying those fees if your country enforces them.

I will continue to keep you all updated as things progress!

For today’s song recommendations, I’d like to leave you with And Dream of Sheep by Kate Bush and Lesley Gore on the T.A.M.I. Show by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone.

Project Update: Test Prints Have Arrived!
An image of a Caucasian person sweeping their hair back to expose their hearing aid and dice earring. They hold a pen between their fingers and have a sunflower on their bracelet. To their right is a soundwave pattern.

Hi there listeners.

I’ve had a very happy mail day as all the test prints for Midnight in Jubilation have arrived earlier than expected!

A stack of four A5 sized books, fanned out slightly like a deck of cards. Their covers read: "Midnight in Jubilation by Dorian Blackwood.

Why did I order so many you might ask? It’s because I wanted to be very confident in the look and feel of final product and I’m still quite new to printing books. That meant I wanted to test how thick or thin the exterior of the softcover should be, what kind of paper would work best for the amount of black ink on the interior pages, and how the overall design would translate to a physical book.

An A5 book, open to a spread of the Jubilation Town Map and a description of the Jubilation Radio Station.

I am so, so happy to say that I only have a few minor tweaks to make to the art to improve contrast and spacing, a little bit of text to tidy up, and the game will be complete! Sadly, during the earlier test printing, I did realise the little black moon I'd had as page number decor didn't translate well to print, hence why it's no longer in the spread you can see above. However, this all means I’m going to start locking surveys over the next couple of days and will be closing and refunding any physical pledges with surveys not yet completed. This is so I can get a good idea of the final number of books I’ll be ordering.

Then in a few weeks I’ll be booking in with my accessibility consultant to review both of the main PDFs for the game: the versions with and without graphics. When that’s all confirmed, I’ll upload them to the pledge manager and go through the steps to send out the download links for the game, the early bird reward, and my Tabletop Tavern banner freebie!

For tonight's song recommendations I'd like to leave you with High Rise by Hawkwind and Ghosts by Infantjoy.

Progress Update - Test Prints Ordered
An image of a Caucasian person sweeping their hair back to expose their hearing aid and dice earring. They hold a pen between their fingers and have a sunflower on their bracelet. To their right is a soundwave pattern.

Hi listeners.

Work is continuing on the updated version of Midnight in Jubilation. I’m very pleased to say that my sensitivity consultant has reviewed all the new content, including the names I’ve received thus far, and my accessibility consultant has reviewed the current layout too. While they won’t be available to check and confirm the accessibility of the final game documents for another few weeks yet, this still means I’ve been able to progress things on the printing side.

I’ve now ordered another test print of the softcover book and a first test print of the hardcover book! I’m so excited for them to arrive so I can see how it all looks. Then I will be trying to take some decent photos to share with you all too. As we’re getting ever closer to the official print run, I also wanted to gently remind anyone who hasn’t yet filled in their survey—particularly for physical book pledges—that once we’re at that point, I will be refunding your pledge and closing that all off.

I’m really appreciative of the continued support you’ve all shown for the game. I’m looking forward to sharing more updates as it progresses!

For today’s song recommendations I’d like to leave you with Dead Flowers by the Rolling Stones and Wish You Were Here by Sparklehorse, featuring Thom Yorke.
