Nightmare Scenario is a third party supplement product for Draw Steel, filled with options and goodies for creating encounters in a dreamscape, and more!
Picture it: Your players are delving into the mind of an ancient dragon, visiting the manifold of dreams, or exploring an NPC's subconscious to cure a sleeping curse. But alas! You don't have any monsters to throw at them! Doesn't that just sound like a...
Nightmare Scenario is a third party supplement product for Draw Steel, filled with options and goodies for exploring a psychogenic dreamscape. Inside, you can find:
The Vexation enemy band, comprised of 10 new 2nd-echelon psychic manifestation monsters, featuring enemies such as Doubts, Traumas, Panic Attacks, and a leader called a Psychosis!
The Somari ancestry, psionic beings born of dreamstuff
The Dream domain for Conduits (and Censors!)
6 magic items, including a leveled treasure
3 dynamic terrain objects and 2 dynamic arenas for mindscape adventuring
2 titles
Each is playtested and ready for your Draw Steel games!
We aren't going to make a crowdfunder without showing off some of the goods, so we made a platter of each kind of option in the packet to show you what we're working with!
We have lots of ideas we want to put into the product, and these stretch goals will help with that!
£1500: Monsters Arted
If we reach this goal, every Vexation will receive a piece of art, complete with multiple token-ified versions for VTT use, including the Codex!
£2000: The Maverick Talent
If we reach this goal, the PDF will include the rules for a talent subclass, the Maverick! The Maverick is for talents who lack the fine control and discipline of other specialties, inspired by wild magic from d20 fantasy.
£2500: Full Artage
If we reach this goal, we will be able to art all the magic items, arenas, and DTOs, as well as include art for the Dream domain and Maverick talent.
If a given art-based goal isn't reached, backers at the Burgeoning Wish tier will help contribute toward receiving pieces from the unreached goals regardless.
When the project finishes funding, backers of the Flight of Fancy level and above will immediately receive access to the statblocks of all 10 Vexations, most of which have already been through several rounds of playtesting and edits. Additional content (such as access to magic items or dynamic arenas) will also be sent out on an ad hoc basis as it's completed.
Final Release: We're aiming for a final release of Q3 2026, around August. With the early versions of most of the mechanics complete, the biggest time sinks are playtesting and art.
Or perhaps Stressors?
Creating a purely digital project, our risks are minimal. Our largest potential bottleneck is art, but we're not above contracting help for poor Onkeen in the art mines if needs must. This is our first project as a trio, but not the first project for us individually. We are confident that we will be able to deliver the product to our high standards on time!
We are Font of Victories, a trio of creators for Draw Steel who have banded together to combine our talents and make the best products we can!
Lead Designer: Matthew Mitchell (ChaoticGoodra/Mattelonian) [he/him]
Creator of the Vessel class for Draw Steel, as well as the well-loved Elementalist Unlocked and Tactician Unified reworks. You may have seen Matte around the Draw Steel Brewery and/or MCDM Discord trying (and failing) to cull his urge to revise everything.
Layout, Writing, and Additional Design: Jonas Tintenseher (Tintenseher) [they/them]
Winner of the first-ever Jams of the Timescape and designer for Triglav Games, Jonas is an admin for the Draw Steel Brewery playtest Discord, and has provided a lot of the visual design guidelines for Draw Steel homebrew. If you've asked a rules question about the game in the MCDM Discord, statistically speaking, they're the one who answered.
Creator of the gorgeous Stormbreakers Codex module and artist of said first-place Jams of the Timescape entry, Onkeen is a budding TTRPG artist who has been graciously releasing a lot of his art under Creative Commons for homebrewers to use. He is also French, but don't hold that against him.
