So, at last I can say that production is complete on Wires In The Woods.
Before I get into the fulfilment bit, here is a quick video of the box, punch outs, journals and rulebook all playing nice together (extra space is for minis and cards).
(give us a subscribe as I intend to do some play throughs soon).
There are still a couple of hurdles to go, but they are just a matter of time. Wires in The Woods is now a thing and we can confidently say that this is the year it will be out in the world!
Our aim is to get it to everyone before the end of October, so you can have some Halloween fun and also cosy storytelling evenings as the winter nights draw in.
So, what happens now?
Several pallets will be making their way across the ocean next week. When we receive these can be hit and miss depending on customs, but usually we anticipate 4-5 weeks. We'll then start fulfilment worldwide.
We're not sure how long that part will take as we have never done anything this big before, but it will be all hands on deck, I promise. For the US and EU we are looking to ship from within those territories so we can remove all nasty customs surprises.
That's all for now, I'll keep you in the loop as I know more.
Tim (& Simon who I think I've convinced to create a new TTRPG with me).
Another quick update to let you know that the journals are now complete:
As with everything else in this project, Simon and I went a bit above and beyond on the nostalgia production values. We were specifically trying to emulate the old Composition styles schoolbooks. That meant rounded edges and sourcing book-binding cloth in the right colour for the spines.
I think we actually might have ticked all of our boxes.
Oh, and of course there are the interior wood free, fountain-pen friendly paper on the interior that simon added a few small embellishments to.
It's another step closer to having this project ready to head out of the door.
In other news, I have asked the printer to air-freight a few copies of the book and journal to me so I can take some better images.
We're only waiting for the boxes, punch out cards and dice to come out of production now and then we are good to fulfil.
As the books are being bound, I managed to badger a photo from the printer with the printed edges that incorporate Simon's leaf design. They will look much better once bound (and once I have them to get better photos, but here is what they are looking like:
It's a short but sweet one, today, but I thought you might like to see the books as they progress. I'm hoping to get photos from the printer of the full book very soon, but I'll also be getting some copies sent to me by air freight so I can show them off with better images.
If your address has changed, please don't worry. We will reach out to all backers just before fulfilment. I'll do this in updates and emails direct.
Coming in with a quick update for you as things plod steadily on. I'm anticipating photos of the books with edge printing at any moment, but in the meantime we've just been a photo of one of the boxes fresh out of production.
Before I dish out the photos, I'd love it if you could help me with something. We've been invited to take part in the BackerKit ENnies Emporium, because my game Punk is Dead won an ENnie last year. This is basically a drive to get more people interested in indie games. You don't have to back anything, just give us a follow.
Right, on to those box pics.
I'll get better pics once they arrive.
So, we are expecting everything to be start heading to us this month which means fulfilment is anticipated to begin in August.
As a reminder, I will reach out to everyone for the opportunity to change addresses, but in the meantime, hang tight! We are getting there.
This is a short but sweet one. The ribbon bookmarks are all created now and with the printer, so we are just waiting for someone to confirm the books are edge printed then it's on to binding it all together. As soon as that happens we will have images of the completed book.
For now, here are the ribbons:
We went a little bit more chonk with the bookmarks to make the designs pop.
I know this update my feel a bit inconsequential, but I do like to share the process where I can and also let you see the small details that go into every aspect of creating Wires in The Woods.
I'm not sure what the next update will be as I keep getting little production surprises myself. But I do know it will be soon.
