Draw your cards & step through the looking glass. The Covens of Midnight returns with The Secrets of Wonderland, a new solo/duet journalling RPG, and an Oracle's Guide for tarot-led group play. Each is standalone, with illustrated tarot decks to match.
You know the Midnight Court. You've walked its halls, learned its magic, and forged the bonds that define your character. But what happens when you bring that world to the table with friends or want to explore alone?
The Oracle's Guide transforms Covens of Midnight into a multiplayer or GM-Less experience, giving you everything you need to guide a group of Scribes through the mysteries, magic, and dangers of the Midnight Court.
With new tools for the Oracle (GM), GM-Less mode and guidance for running your own adventures, every session becomes an opportunity to explore the Court in a completely new way. Your party might become allies, rivals, or something far more complicated, and the choices they make can change the story in unexpected ways.
The Midnight Court is waiting. The question is: what story will you tell?
Your Scribe grows with every session. Chart a path through 11 Constellation perk trees, strike a Forebearer Pact with one of 9 Paragons, and shape a Scribe no one else at the table could have made.
The Oracle's Guide is the multiplayer rulebook for Covens of Midnight. One player takes the role of the Oracle (GM) and guides a group of Scribes through the Midnight Court, an elite magical academy where friendships ignite, rivalries burn, and love blooms in shadow.
It runs on the new Spellbinder System. Every check is resolved with tarot cards, and the Oracle never needs to draw, so they can keep their focus on the story. Inside you will find 11 Constellation perk trees, Forebearer Pacts with 9 Paragons, spells you can adjust to make your own, zone-based conflict with no grids, a narrative Bestiary, and a starter adventure, The Stolen Grimoire.
No Oracle? No problem. The Oracle's Guide also includes GM-Less Mode: the full game with no Oracle (Game Master) needed, playable solo or with friends. See Play Alone or Together below.
The Oracle's Guide is standalone. You do not need the original Covens of Midnight or Secrets of Wonderland to play.
The Oracle's Guide is a standalone multiplayer experience, but it's still deeply connected to the world of Covens of Midnight. You don't need to know the full lore of Akeroth, the Midnight Court, or the wider Covens universe to start playing. Whether you're new to the world or already familiar with its secrets, The Oracle's Guide gives you everything you need to gather your coven and create your own stories.
As a student of the Midnight Court, your journey is one that cannot be left to the chance of a dice roll. Instead, your days are defined by the pull of a tarot card. Every check you make is resolved by drawing tarot cards, and you can play with any tarot deck you like.
Magic at the Midnight Court is yours to shape. Learn your spells, then adjust how they work to make them your own.
No Oracle? No problem. The Oracle's Guide includes GM-Less Mode, a complete way to play with no Oracle (Game Master) at the table. Play it fully solo, or with as many friends as you like.
How it works. In GM-Less Mode you form a Circle: your Scribe and the Companions you create to stand beside them. Tables and prompts take the Oracle's place, so you can tell your own story at your own pace and uncover the secrets that Mesym has to offer.
Play Solo. One player runs the whole Circle, with no Oracle and no group needed.
Play Together. Bring as many players as you want. Nobody has to run the game, so everyone gets to play.
Part of the Spellbinder System. GM-Less Mode is an extension of the new Spellbinder System, not a separate game. It plays differently from the journalling of Covens of Midnight, but you can still journal every step if you love to.
Switch whenever you like. Move back and forth between GM-Less and Oracle-led play, so forever GMs finally get a turn as a player.
Covens of Midnight is a Solo Journalling RPG, and it is where your story at the Midnight Court begins. Create your Scribe, your Rival and your Best Friend, then live a full school year across three terms, one tarot draw at a time.
Each day you draw five cards. Every card gives you a journal prompt and an outcome. As events occur you will be able to journal how you resolve them, who you meet and explore what life that the Midnight Court can be like for a new student!
A Corrected Second Printing Covens of Midnight returns to print with its rules clarified and errata applied throughout, and every published expansion collected in one volume. It is the same game, and it is fully compatible with the first printing. If you already have the book, yours plays exactly as it always has.
New content, free for every owner. New Kin, two new Paragons (Ormurrin and Soloria) and never-before-seen lore that ties into Secrets of Wonderland and beyond are being released as a free digital expansion. If you own Covens of Midnight, in print or PDF, first printing or second, it is yours at no cost.
Already own Covens of Midnight? Every copy came with its PDF, so yours will be updated to the corrected version, free.
This may look like a normal campaign, but it’s actually two titles in one!
At the request of many, we’re bringing both a new standalone adventure in the world of Covens of Midnight and a brand new system to life! You will experience the wonders of magic in unique ways whichever title you choose, so pick the one you are most excited for!
Most RPGs rely on dice to determine what happens next. Covens of Midnight uses tarot cards instead. The cards help shape the story, character progression, and action resolution, meaning every draw can reveal new possibilities and influence the path your story takes. And you don't need a special deck to play.
Any standard tarot deck can be used with the game, making it easy to bring your own cards and reading style to the table. For those who want something made specifically for the world of Covens of Midnight, this campaign also offers a stylish custom tarot deck designed to complement your game. Both of our decks pair Major Arcana illustrated in the Rider-Waite style with Minor Arcana in the Marseille style.
The brand new Spellbinder System, designed from the ground up for the Oracle's Guide, takes this further with new rules, including The Shadow Deck, which can change your fate at a moment's notice. The Oracle never needs to draw cards, so they can keep their focus on the story rather than the resolution system.
Sanctum is the premium Crossed Paths virtual tabletop. It was built for one purpose: to let you play all of our titles anywhere you want and however you want.
It runs in your browser on PC and mobile, with nothing to install! Every pledge that includes a game (PDF or Physical) comes with Sanctum Access for the game you've picked! Sanctum Access for each game is worth £15 and is yours to keep, with no subscription.

Artisan Pendulum A joint venture of two amazing makers. Myles of Runefable Dice casts the resin pendulum, and Kayleigh of Corryvreckan Maille weaves the chainmail casing that holds it, ring by ring, in Glasgow. This pendulum can incite the madness of the Cheshire Cat if you stare at it for too long so do be careful!
Note: The Designs shown are not final and still subject to change!

BackerKit's Pay Over Time lets backers pledging $150 (around £111) or more split their payment into four monthly instalments, with no interest or additional fees.
Choose Pay Over Time at checkout. Once our campaign successfully funds, you are charged 25% of your total pledge each month for four months. Your pledge is confirmed immediately, but nothing is sent out until your pledge has been paid in full. That includes digital rewards and Sanctum Access, so finished games that other backers receive 4 weeks after the campaign ends are sent to you once your final instalment has been paid.
Shipping Is Charged Later Shipping is not included in your pledge. It is charged through BackerKit closer to fulfilment, along with any VAT, IOSS or other taxes and fees that apply in your country. Shipping is weight-based, so add-ons or a change of pledge tier will change your final shipping price. The table above shows our estimates for each region.
If shipping and any relevant taxes or fees are not paid, your items cannot be sent and your original pledge will not be refunded.
Regional Notes
United States: The US has introduced tariffs that affect us. Shipping costs do not include import charges, and these may change as US rules change.
Canada: The price shown applies if we have fewer than 200 backers in Canada, because of freight costs. Above 200 backers we get better freight pricing and will pass the saving on to you. We will update you directly if we reach that number.
New Zealand: You are in the Australia shipping group, with an additional £10 if we have fewer than 200 backers in New Zealand.
United Kingdom: For the card deck and other non-book rewards, VAT is applied during pledge management.
Where we cannot ship: Russia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, South America, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. We apologise to potential backers in these locations.
Terms and Conditions
The final product may vary in some aspects from what is shown during the campaign. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality items, but changes in design, size or content may occur.
We cannot offer refunds on collected pledges after the project end date. This includes Pay Over Time pledges.
By pledging you agree to the estimated shipping prices above and to any changes they may incur. By finalising your pledge before the last address confirmation, you agree to these shipping terms.
You are responsible for any taxes, tariffs, VAT, import duties or customs fees on your items. We will do what we can to mitigate these.
Shipping is from the United Kingdom and is handled through BackerKit. Ownership and risk of the package transfer to you when it is handed to the carrier.
Keep your email and delivery details accurate and up to date in BackerKit, and follow our updates. Tracking is sent to the email you provide, and tracking and managing delivery is your responsibility. If you do not confirm your address by the final deadline, this is deemed your acceptance of complete fulfilment.
We will contact you by email before distributing rewards. After making all possible efforts, we will move on to other business aspects.
Report damaged or missing items to [email protected] within 30 days of receipt, and lost or misdelivered packages within 60 days of the shipping date, so we can follow up or reship.
Timelines
Digital Delivery: Q4 2027 Our final delivery date for all digital content is Q4 2027. We wish we could promise dates upfront for physical items, but production and shipping are volatile and we cannot predict how they will go, so we only promise the dates we have full control over. Backers will receive updates at each milestone so you always know what is going on!
Finished Games Arrive Early Games that are already finished are delivered in digital form 4 weeks after the campaign ends, together with Sanctum Access for those games. That includes Covens of Midnight and any add-ons that contain finished titles.
Pay Over Time Nothing is sent out to Pay Over Time pledges, digital or physical, until the final instalment has been paid.
