Collaboration makes everything more fun.

πŸ’š Hardcover stretch goal unlocked! πŸ’š

Back at any paperback pledge tier, then choose the "Hardcover Upgrade" add-on to get one of those instead. Extra durable, extra fancy.

πŸ’š

Did you grow up loving L. Frank Baum’s original Oz books? Do you wish more writers were interested in building on the adventures that happened after the first time Dorothy made it back to Kansas? Are you looking for stories that are, not necessarily β€œadult” in the sense of explicit sex and violence and political intrigue, but β€œadult” in the sense that Dorothy and Ozma can grow up and get married?

If yes, this collection is for you.

I'm designing the book with 1900s art-nouveau flourishes, and filling it with a bunch of all-new illustrations. You're going to love it.

A collection of 8 different short stories, with a bunch of my own, all-new, hand-drawn illustrations. Mostly focused on Dorothy Gale as she grows up in Oz, along with Ozma, Toto, and all her other queer friends.

(These were originally written as separate, stand-alone works of Oz fiction, so they won’t all fit together with perfect continuity. Don’t worry about it. Baum certainly didn’t.)

It'll be 150+ pages at 7 x 9.25". I'm aiming for a paperback edition first, but I would love to make a hardcover option, so that'll be one of the stretch goals.

I have one of the original 1906 printings of Baum's fourth Oz book, and I'm using that as an inspiration. Expect lots of classy old-fashioned text styles and art-nouveau flourishes.

πŸ’š Stretch Goal 1: Heroic Hardcovers: UNLOCKED

Originally this section talked about hardcover tiers...but since we unlocked it so close to the final deadline, I'm doing a simple add-on. (If you miss it during the campaign, don't worry, it'll also be available in the backer survey.)

If your tier includes a paperback, you can now check the Available Add-Ons section and add "Make Mine a Hardcover" to your pledge!

πŸ’š Stretch Goal 2: Miraculous Magnets: $3500

I've done magnets for Leif & Thorn before. They were cute and fun! I'd love to do a set of Dorothy and Ozma magnets.

Designs TBA, if we get this far. For now, just know that they'll match.

πŸ’Έ Why crowdfunding?

If it's good enough for Brandon Sanderson, it's good enough for me.

πŸ’Ή Where exactly is the money going?

Mostly to printing the actual book, since paper costs keep going up. BackerKit and Stripe (the payment processor) each have to take their cut. I built in some emergency padding, for any surprise expenses that pop up along the way. Once all the packages are shipped, I'll probably have enough left over to take myself out for celebratory pie.

πŸ“¦ Postage costs aren't included in my tier. When do you charge those?

US backers: Your shipping costs are built into the basic tier price. Keeps things simple.

Everyone outside the US: Your shipping is calculated after the campaign, and you will get a separate charge from BackerKit when they're ready. Please keep that in mind when budgeting!

Estimated postage costs for the basic book tier (based on current USPS rates, all prices are in USD):

  • Canada: $20
  • European Union: $25
  • Rest of world: $35

You may get extra tariffs or duties when the package arrives, too. (International backers who see all this nonsense and choose to get a paperback anyway, please know that us writers admire and appreciate you so much.)

πŸ“« When will my rewards get delivered?

Based on my past experience with Crowdfunding Books in September, here's our estimated timeline:

Digital rewards: December 2026-January 2027

Print books (US): April-May 2027

Print books (international): May-June 2027

Hey folks, my name is Erin Ptah, and I have very strong feelings about "let the magical world be an actual place, not A Metaphor For Childhood Whimsy or whatever."

I've also been an Oz fan for as long as I can remember, and have spent the past couple years vaguely wanting to make a book about it. Printopia 2026 finally prompted me to take the leap.

You may know me from my original comics, the queer cross-cultural comedy Leif & Thorn (ongoing since 2015) and the millennial mashup But I'm A Cat Person (complete!). Or you might know me from fanfiction. Either is cool.

Keep up with my other work on Tumblr, on Deviantart, or on Patreon. (Come for the public announcements, subscribe for the patron-locked bonus art.)

But first, stay on BackerKit and back this project! And take a look at the rest of Printopia while you're at it...

Is ONE world really enough? Do you not need to conquer more like the book dragon we all know you are?

Authors and creators need coffee to sustain themselves, and here is your chance to directly support them. We've all banded together on this quest, so why not check out other campaigns?
