I wanted to provide a general update regarding the survey and the pins.
We are still about a week away from the survey being sent out. Backerkit recommends that the survey be sent out two weeks after the campaign ends to allow for the payments to be settled. So look for the survey emails in about a week.
Having said that I have put the pins in production with 'minimum orders' of 100 units of each of the designs.
I will need more than that for some designs, and less than that for others. So once I have the survey data I will make a second order of the designs that I will need more of. This helps logistically by getting things moving now, as well as spreads out the task of inspecting and packaging.
This also means that shipping will likely take place in two separate waves, or maybe just one long wave, haha.
I have also added the Scientific Wonder coin as an option in place of the Lab Rats for those who qualified for the free 'pin'. If you qualified for that freebie you will have a question in the survey to select either one of the Rats or a coin.
We still have a long road ahead of us before anyone gets their pins, but if you have any questions or concerns along the way please let me know and I will be happy to address them to the best of my ability.
Thanks to you, More Cats Doing Science had an amazing finish! But now that the project had ended, what happens next?
I am carefully reviewing all of the design files to make sure that there are no errors prior to manufacturing, and I am also setting up the pledge manager.
BackerKit will be charging your card in the next day or two if they have not already done so.
In about two weeks, you will get an email from BackerKit with a link to the post campaign pledge manager/survey. With it you will tell me which pins you want, where you would like them shipped, pay for any additional optional add-ons, as well as pay for shipping.
I will use the data from the pledge manager to make sure that enough of each pin design are produced. With over 750 backers I need that data to make an accurate order, as right now I don't know which designs are very popular, and which were less popular. So when you get the survey email, please fill it out as soon as you can.
A week or two AFTER the pledge manager I will be placing my Main Order of pins with my production partner. It will likely take them a month or two to produce the pins. Once I have them in hand I will do my own inspection of them, package them up and begin to ship them out.
It is still a LONG process from here before the pins make their way to you. I will do my best to keep you updated, but if you have any questions along the way, please feel free to reach out to me. I don't mind at all!

Did you know that this is now my second highest funded pin campaign ever!?! The only project that I have done that had more funding was my original Black Cat RPG campaign.
In celebration of your tremendous support I have decided to unleash my silliness and add one more design to the campaign.
Not a single person has ever asked for this. It was just a little doodle in one of my sketchbooks that I did along the way while designing all of the science cats. When I felt overwhelmed at the size of the project that I was trying to put together, it always put a smile on my face when I would flip past it.
Please give a warm welcome to the Chemistry Duck! I like colorful labware filed with colored liquid. I think rubber ducks are fun. I don't know what more to say...

I was getting a lot of messages from people who missed the campaign and wanted to know how they could make sure that they got some of the pins from More Cats Doing Science.
I decided the best solution was to open up a Pre-Order shop through BackerKit. The Pre-Orders will flow into the same pin counts that the survey results will flow into, and will ship out around the same time as the backer rewards, but before anything gets listed on my website.
This seemed like the cleanest way to handle the still growing demand for these pins before I actually have them in hand.

Today I am excited to be adding the third custom design to this project!
The Backer is essentially in the role of Art Director and we work together to take their concept and turn it into a new design that is then added to the campaign where anyone can select it. These are always so fun to work on because of the power of collaboration. The resulting designs are unique and would never have existed without the creativity of their sponsoring backers.
The Scientific Outreach Cat works to increase accessibility, awareness, and overall understanding of the sciences. I fondly remember scientists taking time out of their busy lives to come visit my school when I was a child to give fun and exciting science demonstrations. In this pin design the Science cat has two younger cat volunteers participating in the exciting flame test!
Did you know that the presence of certain metal ions will influence the color of a flame? In this design we can see copper ions for the blue green flame, potassium ions for the purple flame, and lithium ions for deep red flames. This same principle is what allows for the amazing colors that we can see in fireworks!
Science events like this help to demystify the sciences and spark curiosity and wonder in all of us.
