BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

What's the timeline?

That's the million dollar question, isn't it? I have now done 2 projects with the workshop team who is producing these dice, and they are efficient and have great communication. Their general timeline is about 3 months, but I'm giving a VERY generous estimate of 1 year because you just never know with these things, and I'd rather fulfil early than late! That should put fulfilment no later than February, 2025. Ideally, it'll be much sooner, but this is the furthest goal post.

Where will rewards be shipping from?

Nearly all rewards will ship from my studio in Ontario, Canada. At this time we are expecting the handmade hex trays to ship from Naturally Nerdy HQ in the USA to keep shipping costs as low as possible for everyone.

Are these dice balanced?

Yes. The UV-activated inclusions are made with resin, as are the rest of the dice themselves. The other inclusions are so light as to make virtually no difference to the overall balance of the dice. They're perfectly suitable to play at any gaming table!

What if I want both the online one-shot AND a handmade hex dice tray?

If you'd like both of these great rewards, there are a few options for you. 1- you can back the campaign using 2 different Backerkit accounts. This way is simplest for me and also gets you double the stretch goal rewards/early bird bonuses (if you're backing in the first 48 hours of the campaign). 2- if you don't want to set up and manage 2 different Backerkit accounts (I get it, I do!) but you'd like both rewards, please send me an email to [email protected]. I will set up something custom to make it happen. I don't expect that many people will want this combo, but if it does come up a bunch I will make campaign-wide adjustments to account for that.

Do they glow in the dark?

Nope! They only glow under UV light. I've had them glow a bit under bright sunlight, too, which was unexpected but very cool!

What about UV light? Is it safe?

Generally speaking most commercially available UV lights are going to be UV-A and the vast majority emit much less UV light than being outside on a sunny day. Both the flashlight and the strip LEDs in the tray are UV-A lights. The flashlights are 365nm wavelength and the trays are approximately 400nm wavelength. How do I reach you with a question?
