Project Update: Demo Disc fully unlocked and poll results! More choices for Bloodsong 🧛

Hey Nostalgics,

You did it! The three one-shots in the Demo Disc (bundled with CorePlayer! Magazine) have been unlocked 🥳

Now that the polls are closed, we also have determined the game genres:

  1. ACTION PLATFORMER
  2. PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR
  3. MONSTER TAMING

If you want to join the brainstorming on these, hop on our Discord server: you'll find dedicated posts in the forum section of the MemoryCore channel for each of the three.

While we get closer to our next unlock (the Remote Play Toolkit), let's keep on working together to outline some aspects of the Anthology. This time, we revisit Bloodsong: Hunters of the Night.

The game will already feature a cast of Familiars to discover and bond with across your run. But one more is about to join the hunt, and that one is yours to choose. This is the bonus slot: the companion that makes it in because you wanted it there.

Three candidates have stepped forward. One earns a place at your side. The others… wait for another night.

  • Dancing Sword: It needs no hand to wield it. Autonomous, elegant, unyielding — a blade that fights because it wants to.

  • Fairy: Ancient magic in a small form. Don't be fooled by the wings. Fairies in this genre have seen things.

  • Sacred bible: The written word as weapon. A tome that spins, strikes, and carries knowledge too dangerous to leave on a shelf.

Who will have your back in the darkest corners of the Black Castle?

Don't forget that you still have the chance to unlock Legendary Memory Cards! Help us spread the word and end our campaign with a bang 🎆

Project Update: Third Demo Disc poll and NEW GAME+

Dear Nostalgics,

This is a dense update! Let's start from the Demo Disc: Psychological Horror was your choice in the latest poll, and as such it will be the genre of the second game in the Demo Disc (which is included in every copy of Coreplayer! Magazine).

For the almost-unlocked third demo game, we're moving into another fascinating corner of the late '90s. This time, your options are:

Action Adventures: inspired by iconic classics like Tomb Raider. Explore ancient ruins, solve environmental puzzles, evade deadly traps, and uncover secrets best left buried.

Monster Taming: befriend strange creatures, train unlikely companions, build your dream team, and discover what happens when friendship becomes a game mechanic.

Dating Sims: inspired by Japanese classics such as Tokimeki Memorial. Build relationships, make difficult choices, survive awkward conversations, and maybe find true love before graduation.

Vote below and tell us where the Demo Disc should go next. If you want to join the community brainstorming, head over to our Discord and help us shape it!

💿💿💿

After unlocking the third game, we'll enter a new phase of the campaign: NEW GAME+. We've decided to show ALL remaining stretch goals. We're doing so because some of these address specific requests by the community.

REQUEST #1: WE WANT TO PLAY ONLINE

We've got you covered! The REMOTE PLAY TOOLKIT is a free online-play toolset that will ship with every game:

  • Browser-based CHARACTER SHEETS for each title
  • A DISCORD BOT that rolls the MemoryCore way (Top Die, Advantage, MULTI, Button Mashing)
  • MEMORYCARDS, EXPLORATION MAP and GAME DISC, easy for everyone at the tab... err, in the browser tab, to consult and interact with
  • GM QUICK-REFERENCE tools to keep sessions flowing

It isn't a full VTT. It's something simpler: open Discord, open a link, play. Press start, together, from anywhere.

This doesn't rule out a full VTT, but since porting the system and six games has a complexity that goes beyond a classic system port, its development is tied to the highest stretch goal. We truly hope you can help us hit it.

REQUEST #2: WE WANT TO PUBLISH MEMORYCORE-COMPATIBLE GAMES

Many of you have asked if it would be possible to publish your own games using the MemoryCore system. We listened, and today we're excited to introduce Powered By MemoryCore, Horrible Guild's official licensing program.

If you'd like to design and publish your own game powered by MemoryCore, you'll simply submit your project proposal from a dedicated webform. We'll review your submission, and if approved, you'll be granted an official license to publish your game as part of the MemoryCore ecosystem.

Every project will be individually reviewed by the Horrible Guild team to ensure it meets our quality standards and fits the spirit of MemoryCore. Approved projects will be officially licensed and recognized as part of the growing MemoryCore family. We can't wait to see what you'll create!

💿💿💿

Whew, that was a long update! If you have questions, ask in the comments or join us for the last live stream on Tuesday! We're going to be playing 32bit classics until the campaign ends; since we're using the Overtime feature, as long as you keep pledging we'll be glued to the TV and stretch goals will keep unlocking.

Project Update: Demo Disc one-shot games update and second poll!

Hi Nostalgics,

Here’s an update on how the Demo Disc is taking shape!

In the past few hours, you helped us decide which corner of the 32-bit era we should explore first, and the Action Platformer won: the first step on a journey that could eventually lead to a full-fledged jewel case release. But for now, the Action Platformer takes its place as the first official game featured in the MemoryCore Demo Disc.

We asked you to join our brainstorming on this one-shot game: the perfect place to do so is the dedicated post in the forum section of the official Discord server.

In case you missed the previous update: the Demo Disc is included for free with every copy of Coreplayer! Magazine, whether purchased as an add-on or received through the Platinum Reward Tier.

Meanwhile, the second Demo Disc game is on its way to be unlocked! There’s a new poll to decide which genre it will be. This time, you have to decide if you want to go dark, go silly, or go punk. Your options are:

Psychological Horror, inspired by haunting classics like Silent Hill and Overblood. Explore unsettling places, uncover buried truths, and confront fears that may be far more dangerous than any monster. Ammunition not necessarily involved.

Point-and-Click Adventure, inspired by beloved classics such as Broken Sword and Discworld. Solve bizarre goat-related puzzles, interrogate suspicious characters, and somehow save the day through equal parts wit, luck, and absurdity.

Sports Game, inspired by adrenaline-fueled titles like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Cool Boarders. Pull off impossible tricks, compete for glory, wipe out spectacularly, and chase the perfect run—or bite the asphalt trying.

These aren't your usual tabletop RPG experiences, and that's why we want to explore them.

Can MemoryCore capture the tension of psychological horror? The strange logic of adventure games? The speed, style, and spectacle of extreme sports?

There's only one way to find out!

Vote below and tell us where the Demo Disc should go next.

Project Update: Put Your Spin on the Demo Disc!

Dear Nostalgics,

As we hinted yesterday, we have some exciting news.

To thank you for your incredible support and for the creativity you've brought to this campaign, we've decided to rethink our upcoming stretch goals and build something entirely new with you.

Introducing... the Demo Disc! 💿

Remember the Demo Discs of the '90s? Showcases for the latest games and the promise of 32-bit consoles: playable samples, glimpses into new worlds, and the occasional experiment still in development.

We're having so much fun building MemoryCore with you that we want to do exactly that.

The Demo Disc is a cardboard sleeve packed with everything you need to try brand-new MemoryCore experiences: foldable one-shot adventures, single-use pre-generated characters, quick-start rules, and more. It's included for free inside the Coreplayer! Magazine, a gift for everyone at the Platinum Reward Tier or who added Coreplayer! as an add-on.

Here's the part we're most excited about.

Starting today, the next three stretch goals will each unlock a brand-new demo game for the Demo Disc, and we want to create them with you. Through Discord, Claudio will lead the design process and involve you in the brainstorming, and experiments that shape each game from the ground up.

This is your seat in the workshop, a look under the hood at how a MemoryCore game is built, and the first real meeting point between us and the people who love this system as much as we do.

In fact, every unlock starts with a community poll. For each stretch goal you'll choose between three game concepts, each inspired by a beloved genre. The inspirations will be obvious, and entirely intentional.

We want to push the system somewhere unexpected: genres that are chaotic, unusual, sometimes far outside our comfort zone. Platformers. Rhythm games. Shooters. Strange hybrids none of us have thought of yet. The Demo Disc is our laboratory, and you're helping run it.

So let's begin. Three genres that defined the 32-bit era and beyond:

  • Action Platformers, inspired by classics like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon.
  • Rhythm Games (a particular obsession of Federico), inspired by titles like Parappa the Rapper.
  • First-Person Shooters, inspired by fast-paced gorefests like Doom and Quake.

Vote now! Which genre should become the first playable one-shot in our community-built Demo Disc?

Project Update: Stretch Goal COMBO! Plus something else...

Dear Nostalgics,

We just hit €150k! 🎉
This campaign has been an incredible success far beyond what we expected, and we couldn't be prouder! More importantly, the passion, enthusiasm, and creativity with which this community (that's you!) continues to help shape MemoryCore means the world to us.

That's why we've decided to give you two gifts, to all backers, for all reward tiers.

First, we've unlocked the next two funding stretch goals ourselves. Clock Tower Mode for Bloodsong and the Soundboard are now officially part of MemoryCore, on top of the Tuxedo Mode which you unlocked by funding the campaign:

Clock Tower Mode transforms Bloodsong into an endless dungeon experience, while the Soundboard is a digital collection packed with the most iconic sounds of the low-poly era: the ultimate nostalgia-fueled immersion tool for GMs and players alike.

But that's not all.

Our biggest gift arrives tomorrow. The next stretch goal will introduce a brand-new unique item, something that will challenge both our creativity and yours.

Any guesses what it could be?
