Hi, I'm Orains, an orange cat who is magically bonded to Nadia, the captain of the Lilly Princess. Together we hunt for magical treasure and fresh fish for me. And I do mean together, because I scuba dive alongside her in my special suit. I've even swatted a shark or two. After all, Nadia and I have had our adventures, but when we find a treasure chest containing the magical collars of Neptune's cat, our lives get a lot more interesting. That makes me have to plan my daily naps carefully.

Very few people knew Neptune had a cat, but in case you haven't noticed catfish are not good mousers and there's work to be done on board a sailing vessel. Thankfully I don't have to work and can be kept in the lifestyle to which I've become accustomed. I deserve the best, and Nadia knows it.

It's when I start to experiment with the collars that things get interesting, and my nine lives start to, well, feel a bit more precious. That's where this collection comes in because it details our finding the magical collars in the novella, Chasing Neptune's Cat, and then the rest of the stories share just how I find out what each collar does. Along the way, Nadia and I find some adventure, too.

Becoming Neptune's Cat is a book-length collection of cozy-adjacent short stories and novelettes (longer short stories) featuring Orains the cat and his adventures with the magical collars of Neptune's Cat.

All stories are complete and currently going through the editing process in order to be ready to fulfill rewards. The book features adult protagonists, the slightest hints of romance, a smart ass orange cat, and is suitable for general audiences.

The paperback book will be formatted in an 8.5"x5.5" size and printed on cream paper if black & white. Full color books will be on white paper. Final page count is TBD. 

Kit's not sure where the idea of Orains came from except after writing equestrian fiction for so long the cats demanded the spotlight. Orains showed up and the rest is history. They have had a much beloved biggest orange boi (Charlie) since 2014, and in 2024 Strudel, an orange and white boi showed up and currently makes their office his home. They are caring for the newest arrival, Tang the Explorer an outside orange boi. The Council of Orange Cats ensures that distribution occurs frequently both in fiction and in real life.

This collection begins with the first novella, Chasing Neptune's Cat, which has been released as an ebook since 2021.

The story continues in a series of short stories and novellas, which has never been released to the public.* Each story comes with its own cover which will be included in the book.

Absolutely NO AI was used in the making of the book, any of the covers for the book or the short stories, or any of the marketing around the book. This project is 100% human created and written. Feline assistance was provided, especially when there was a need to walk on keyboards.

*Some short stories were released to my subscription reader group, but have not been distributed widely.

Our first stretch goal will unlock forced edges on the books in black and white (color if we reach the color stretch goal). This will print a pawprint pattern on the edges of the books just as if Orains himself had walked on them. 

Orains goes color! The covers for each of the stories inside the book will be in full color as well as the forced edges. In addition, those little fish you see at the end of each section will be in color as scene breaks and decorative elements.
