Thank you, backers! We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ve hit our first stretch goal for Between Earth & Sky: the Roleplaying Game—an upgraded Story Counter!

 

Prophecy, divination, and the will of the unknowable gods are so important to the people of the Meridian—and to gameplay in Between Earth & Sky. Between Earth & Sky: the Roleplaying Game introduces innovative mechanics that reflect this significance: Prophecies and the Story Counter. 

 

Sitting at the center of your game table, the Story Counter puts Prophecies at the heart of your game in a very literal sense. It’s part of what makes BE&S feel so special! We’d like to reflect that in the product itself. With this stretch goal unlocked, we’ll be enlarging the Story Counter and adding deluxe elements such as foil stamping!

 

 

There’s a map of the Meridian on the main page of this crowdfunding campaign. It’s the map that appeared in the novels, but it has an RPG connection already: it was crafted by legendary game cartographer Rob Lazzaretti. Rob illustrated and created maps for RPGs going back to GDW’s Traveller, and he was a staff cartographer for Dungeons & Dragons at both Wizards of the Coast and, before that, TSR. Several of us at MCG have worked with Rob at many points in our careers, and are thrilled to have the chance to work with him again!

 

The existing Meridian map is beautiful, but RPG maps are usually much more detailed than those included in novels. We’re working with Rob to expand this map, and give it a lot more detail, for inclusion in Between Earth & Sky: the Roleplaying Game.

 

This stretch goal takes that even farther. This expanded, more detailed map will look beautiful in the book—and even more beautiful on your wall! We want to make a large-format poster map, on quality paper. It’ll be delivered rolled (not folded), making it suitable for framing or for use at your game table.

 

This is a new item. It’ll be included at the ALL-IN (print and PDF) pledge level, and available as an add-on. We’ll also include a high-res file for the map in PDF at all pledge levels. We’ll unlock this beautiful poster map when we get to 500 backers!

Between Earth & Sky: the Roleplaying Game is really special. It’s more than another cool property we get to work with—it’s a chance to help bring vision and ideas to the game table that don’t easily find their way into fantasy gaming. And to do it with love, respect, and authenticity.

 

The average gamer may see the imagery of this game and, without malice or even deliberate thought, just assume it’s not for them. So it’s not enough for us to just “get the word out” about BE&S. We need to advocate for it, and particularly to show fantasy gamers of all stripes how much they’ll love this game—once they get past their expectations of what fantasy has to be.
