Years ago, I got really excited about a certain cartoon show which I wanted to make a game about. I created the first version of this card game and showed it around, and it so well-received that it got signed for publishing! For about a year, it was under contract to use with a distinctly different intellectual property. (hint hint: more about this in the history and variants booklet). I designed several new variations to showcase the capabilities of the game and was able to really hit the interest points of that IP. Unfortunately, that project was canceled, and it came back to my game shelf. So I've had it sitting around for a good long while, and with some new eyes on it, I've ironed out some of the last little quirks that had been bugging me about the original design -- and have even more new ideas for new variants as well! And I'm excited to finally bring it out to show you all today.
So, if you love trick-taking games, martial arts, kittens, (or all three), back Kung Fu Kittens!
Kung Fu Kittens is a trick-taking game of cats who wield martial arts expertise and elemental power. Show off your style, and discover who is the strongest! Kung Fu Kittens adds exciting new mechanics to a classic-feeling trick-taking game.
A "trick"
Kung Fu Kittens plays in four rounds: one competition to showcase mastery of each element. Rounds will have their own rules, and cards will be knocked out of the tournament and put on display, creating more open information for players. Win the most elemental scratch power to win the tournament. Randomizing the order of the elemental rounds plus the combination of choices and limitations in how to approach card plays, creates incredible variation of style for every game!
Every backer will receive immediate access to the preview rulebook for more detail on how the game plays.
The core game will be just $20. No surprises, no nonsense.
For those who want to be more cost conscious and try a simpler version of the game, we're offering a sticker sheet with the relevant instructions for adapting your own deck of cards, for $10.
Next up, a "Kung Fu Enthusiast" pledge level at $50 (limited to 100), which includes three copies of the game, a history of its development and variants that have emerged along the way, plus any other add-ons that get unlocked in the process.
Finally, a "MothSpire Completionist" pledge level at $250 (limited to 5) which includes everything in the Kung Fu Enthusiast tier, plus basically everything else we've ever made. (The pledge listing has 9 items, but that's only the things that are listed as part of the campaign and add-ons. There's definitely more). We're also offering free shipping at this pledge level, even internationally.*

As bad as the shipping situations have been lately, I just discovered in the three days leading up to this campaign start, that it has gotten worse.
A new EU regulation known as PPWR (Packaging, and Packaging Waste Regulation) has recently gone into effect and is having the effect of scaring me off of shipping to EU destinations. Which sucks. Our operation can go read up on regulations and generally comply, but figuring out how to thread the bureacractic needle of as many as 27 different regulatory bodies absolutely is NOT one of our priorities. Sorry not sorry.
And while it seems like for the most part our products are likely fully in compliance on a physical level (recycled packaging, don't sell air, minimize plastics), doing all of the bureacracy to register with every place that we may or may not end up getting backers from, ahead of doing all of the work involved in a crowdfunding campaign sounds like an absolute nightmare.
So... I'm very sorry EU friends, shipping to y'all is just not in the cards this time around. I'm legit really unhappy about this and I've put together a compromise backer level that is specifically for y'all. But yea. It's functionally another big threat to small companies trying to find our audiences on the internet, which means "anywhere."
