Project FAQ
If you're in Canada... hopefully, but we can't make any commitments. If you're in the US... probably, but it all depends on you completing your steps quickly. First, if your initial payment fails for any reason on December 1, it will be crucial that you correct the issue as quickly as possible. After that, you'll need to complete the survey step and the fulfillment step in a timely manner when we email you to do so. As long as all steps are completed by December 10—a full 10 days after the market closes—you should have no problem receiving your items in time to put them under the tree! If you need a bit more wiggle room, some items have a faster turnaround than others. Exact shipping deadlines for holiday delivery vary based on whether an item is shipped by us or our fulfillment partner: - T-shirts and Mugs are shipped by our partner and must be finalized by December 11 in order to arrive by Christmas, which is why we're setting our overall deadline at December 10 for holiday arrival. - Everything else (decks, playmats, tokens, stickers) comes from our warehouse in Chicago and is shipped out personally by yours truly. We use UPS Ground, and since we're centrally located in the country, we can get to most of the country within 3 days or less. UPS doesn't guarantee their Ground delivery times anymore, but they're quite reliable. If your order contains ONLY items that we're shipping from our warehouse, you've got some wiggle room—as long as you complete all the fulfillment steps by December 17, we should still be able to get everything to you in time.
Due to the quick turnaround of this event, the complexity of international shipping in general, plus some added hurdles such as the changing tariff landscape and some fairly recent new safety laws in the EU, our tiny operation (read: Nyx and a shipping station) is only able to handle shipments to the United States and Canada at this time.
For a few very boring reasons related to the way our site works, the way we keep our records, and the way we handle shipments, it's FAR easier for us if you complete your order on our website so that everything ends up in one place for us. We also have more control over how our shipping fees are assessed through our site, which means we can be more accurate in what we charge you. We promise we'll make it super easy and clear to understand for you when the time comes!
While the Holiday Market is active, you are free to change or cancel your order as you like. Once the Market closes on December 1 at 4pm Central time (see that in your time zone here), your order is considered final and may no longer be canceled. In the pledge manager you will have the opportunity to add add-ons and even upgrade your pledge level if you like, but you will not be able to downgrade your pledge or remove add-ons added during the campaign. No refunds will be issued after the campaign closes. We do not accept returns for change-of-mind or sizing issues. However, if your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, we’ll make it right. You can see our full policy and instructions on how to handle such issues, as well as complete details of how we handle shipping, on the Shipping & Returns policy on our website.
Typically, creators run a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds up front so they can produce a product. The Holiday Market shopping period is technically still a "campaign" even though items being sold are already produced, in stock, and ready to ship. So if you see the word campaign, it's referring to the two-week period from November 18-December 1 when you can shop from our store and those of the other great creators here.
In a standard crowdfunding campaign that is raising funds for a new product, creators offer several different levels of support known as pledge tiers, pledge levels, or simply pledges. Because of the way a crowdfunding campaign works, and because BackerKit's website is primarily designed to run these campaigns, the only way to make a purchase through our Boutique is to select a pledge level. Even if you only want to buy add-ons, you have to first select a pledge level (this is a limitation of the system). This is why we've got a $1 "Add-on Access" pledge level as one of our options.
In some of our materials, you might see us refer to the items you purchase through the Holiday Market as backer rewards, crowdfunding rewards, or simply rewards. This simply refers to the items you purchased! In a normal crowdfunding campaign, you're not technically purchasing anything—you're donating support to the creator and they've made a commitment to give you a reward in return based on your level of support. But that concept doesn't apply here, because there's no risk of us not finishing the project. These are ready-to-ship items that you're purchasing just like any other e-commerce store.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
