I've been doing a 9 week Bird Language course, and this week was week 4. It's been great to slowly learn the tools that open the world of birds and what they know. One thing we learned was the 5 main types of bird calls, including the 'aerial alarm' for when there is a flying predator.
We'd just learned this when I went on a mushroom walk and heard a raucous uproar from some cockatoos up a tree. I thought, 'hmm, that sounds like an aerial alarm', so I looked up and - lo and behold, a hawk flew by! I would have totally missed it if I didn't know what the cockatoos were saying. I felt very cool 😎
