This project brings the bizarre and beautiful creatures of the 12th century into the physical world. The designs are sourced directly from British Library MS Sloane 1975 (De medicina ex animalibus), an illuminated manuscript created around 1190.
Original Miniature vs. Handcrafted Test Prototype
Unlike standard medieval bestiaries, this codex was a medical treatise. The scribes drew these animals—lions, hounds, boars, and mythical beasts—with a raw, unhinged Romanesque energy. My goal is to preserve that exact linework and character in solid metal.
The full collection features 19 distinct designs extracted from the manuscript's margins. During the post-campaign survey, you will be able to choose exactly which creatures you want and in what format.

All pieces are made from solid, raw brass, meaning they have a natural weight and a genuine historical feel.
The most important part of this project: nothing is outsourced. I do not use third-party badge factories, and I do not use cheap epoxy resin. Every single piece is crafted by me in my independent studio.
Here is how your rewards are made:
Deep Engraving: I cut and engrave solid brass using a fiber laser. The engravings are intentionally deep to create heavy, raised metal contours.
Hand-Enameling: I manually fill the recessed areas with solvent-based cold ceramic enamel using micro-needles
Curing: The enamel is left to cure fully over several days until completely hardened.
Wet-Sanding: This is the hardest part. I hand-sand every piece using water and progressively finer grits of sandpaper until the enamel and the metal are completely flush and smooth to the touch.
Hand-Polishing: Finally, each piece is buffed with microfiber and polishing compounds to reveal the natural, warm luster of the raw brass.
Because I use raw brass without artificial plating, the metal is alive. Over time, it will naturally oxidize and develop a beautiful, authentic patina—just like real historical artifacts. If you prefer the bright golden shine, it can easily be restored in seconds with any basic brass polishing cloth.
Since I control the entire production line in my workshop, I do not have to wait for overseas shipping containers or factory delays. Production begins the moment the campaign ends.
October: Campaign ends. Backer surveys are sent out. Late October: Production and enameling phase. Late October/Early November: Sanding, polishing, and final assembly. October/November 2026: Rewards are packed and shipped directly from my studio to your door.
My independent workshop is located in Ukraine. While I control the entire manufacturing process in-house, there are external factors related to the ongoing war that I must account for. I want to be completely upfront about them:
Power Outages: My equipment (specifically the fiber laser and polishing tools) requires electricity. In the event of grid damage and scheduled blackouts, production slows down. I adapt my shifts to work whenever power is available, but severe blackouts can cause delays in the timeline.
Air Raids: During missile or drone attacks, safety comes first, and work stops until the alert is over.
Logistics: The national postal service is incredibly resilient and has safely delivered all my previous campaign rewards worldwide. However, international transit times can occasionally fluctuate due to border logistics.
I have successfully produced and fulfilled previous crowdfunding projects under these exact conditions. I already factor buffer time into my estimated delivery dates. If any severe attacks or blackouts disrupt the timeline, I promise full transparency and regular updates. You will receive your rewards, no matter what.
