Project Update: The plague has arrived. There is no escape.

The Book of Plagues arrived from the printer today!

I have to get ready for Gamex, which starts tomorrow and runs through the holiday weekend, so I won't be able to start shipping until after Memorial Day. But the print copies will be on their way to you soon!

Project Update: Incubation period is almost over

It won't be long now: Our printer shipped our run of print copies just before the weekend, and they're supposed to arrive sometime this week! However, it's unlikely that I will ship them before the holiday, as I need to get ready for the Gamex convention in Los Angeles, which begins on Friday. Assuming that our shipment arrives on time, you can stop by the Ramen Sandwich table in the dealers room to pick your copy; otherwise I'd bet right now that I will ship it to you right after the holiday weekend.

In the meantime, I invite you to check out our current campaign on Kickstarter, which supports our next Places by the Way/Found by the Way location module, Children of the Mountain God. We're getting very close to our funding target, but we're not quite there yet.

Thanks again for your support, and you can start keeping an eye on your mailboxes late next week.

Project Update: Plague arriving soon

In the immortal words of Professor Farnsworth, "Good news, everyone!" Our test print for Book of Plagues shows no problems, so we'll order up our print run this weekend. After that, it's up to our printer and UPS to say exactly when we'll get the copies so we can ship them to you, but we're close.

In the meantime, I invite you to have a look at Pocketopia 2026 and the campaign that we just launched to support our next Places by the Way/Found by the Way location module, Children of the Mountain God. We're off to a good start, bit it wouldn't hurt to have more backers.

Project Update: Plague will arrive soon

I'm getting another campaign ready — we're launching another Places by the Way/Found by the Way location module tomorrow morning — but as long as I'm here I should let you know that I reviewed the galley proof for Book of Plagues over the weekend and we're expecting to receive a test print within the next few days. In our experience, test prints very rarely reveal any problems worth delaying production over them, so at that point we should be good to go to order the print run.

In the meantime, check out our next campaign. Children of the Mountain God describes a village in a rain forest that that has done well by trading raw gemstones that they collect from a pond at the foot of the volcano that produces them. However, their supply is cut off when a xorn emerges from the Plane of Earth and eats as many as the volcano can produce. The village sure could use a party of adventurers to help them!

We're also pleased to announce that Children of the Mountain God will be part of the Tabletop Tavern cross-collaboration! Tabletop Tavern is a group of 13 TTRPG projects in Pocketopia 2026; if you back 3 or more Tabletop Tavern campaigns, you'll get a free bonus item from each creator whom you backed!  In our case, you'll get a PDF copy of Tome of the Utility Drawer, a collection of new items collected from the first 8 Places by the Way/Found by the Way location modules.

I hope this finds you well, and that we'll see you again on Backerkit very soon!

Project Update: The hospital train is still on the rails

If you have gotten wind that we have another Backerkit campaign in the works for our next location module, scheduled to launch in early May as part of Pocketopia 2026, you are justified in wondering how The Book of Plagues is coming along when we're already planning out the next project.

The answer is simple, and it's all about our production process: Once I finish writing, I pass the manuscript to our layout artist and mostly put the whole thing out of mind while she works her magic. This leaves me free to look ahead to the next project, although historically I have spent too much of that time goofing off. She lets me know when the book is ready for press, at which point I close post-campaign orders so I can tell her how many print copies we will need. She orders them, then we both get to goof off some more while our printer does their thing. The print copies are shipped to me so I can distribute them to you all.

At the moment, The Book of Plagues is still in layout but we expect to send it to the printer at the end of the month or at the top of next month. After that, it depends on how long the printer takes to print and ship to me. The pledge manager is still open, so there's still time to order more add-ons and for anyone who missed the campaign to get in on the fun.

That is the state of play on The Book of Plagues; thank you again to everyone who supported it and I hope it makes your player characters sick.

In the meantime, I've forged ahead and started working on Places by the Way #15, Children of the Mountain God. I know that it is generally considered bad form to launch a new campaign before your most recent one has been fulfilled, but given the amount of advance promotion that campaigns seem to require these days, and the fact that our model favors a larger number of short products rather than a few lengthy products, it's hard to avoid.
