Project Update: Locking down surveys and charging cards!
Thanks for working so hard on your surveys for the Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before audiobook! There's only about 6 people left who need to fill out their surveys, so I started the process to lock the orders this morning. Once that's done, I'll start the process to charge any remaining amounts needed on credit cards.
Heather is almost finished with her short story, and Mary Robinette is scheduled to start recording the audiobook on May 12th! I'm so excited to hear the final product! We may even get some bloopers from the recording process...stay tuned.
And because I don't have enough to do, I'm gearing up for our next campaign already, which starts May 28th! We've got 8 new queer books coming to you, and I have the list below. We've also got author interviews! The first one, with Carmen Loup, talking about Aliens in New Florida, is up already, and our next one goes live this Wednesday, April 29th. Make sure to watch, then go vote in the poll!
So what do we have for you? Here's the list of books!
- Lucianus, by C.J. Beshara - An ancient wizard, reincarnated into a new body, learns how the world has changed since his catastrophic death, and why his new traveling companion is interested in him!
- Aliens in New Florida, by Carmen Loup, author of the Audacity Omnibus (and in the same universe) - A road trip across post-apocalyptic Florida with prophesy, an attractive reptilian alien, psychedelics, omniscient aliens (and humans), and a quest for the fabled Kingdom!
- Gunmaker, by Chris Gerrib, in the same universe as his previous Space Wizard book One of Our Spaceships is Missing - A murder by gunshot on the indentured mining colony of Eros, a place where guns are not allowed, sparks an investigation into the corruption of the colony owners!
- Romance and the Gentle Art of Rocket Racing, by Rena Rocford, author of the recently released Mothball Magic - A rocket-racing rogue must help her secret half-brother, the king of his colony, to woo the woman of his dreams, through silk, intrigue, and fast ships!
- Pressure Magic - book 3 of William C. Tracy's Shifting Lands fantasy series. Silluka has survived the invasion of Chimor, but she, her brother Ichu, her girlfriend Cosquella, and Lugopo, the eldritch octopus, find themselves stuck on a strange island with a master craftsman!
- Promise of Manifest, by Alex Kingsley - Find out what happens in the conclusion of The Bastion Cycle, in a world of post apocalyptic giant crabs and human scavengers! This is the third book, following Empress of Dust (the 2025 Small Spec Book award winner for Science Fiction) and Relic of Haven!
- Queen and Obsidian, by J.S. Fields, a duology of science fiction space opera stories. It begins with Queen, where an intersex woman is trapped on a barely hospitable planet of women, only to learn their meager living area is further threatened. This is followed up by Obsidian, which follows the events of the first book!

Project Update: Surveys are going out soon!
I set up the pledge manager for the Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before audiobook over the weekend, and it's approved to go out. Looks like we've only got a few failed credit cards, so that's encouraging! If you're one of those, please try to get it fixed as soon as possible.
And remember, if you chose the "Pay over time" option, you won't actually get your survey until the fourth payment is complete.
I'm going to send out the Smoke Test today, which will go out to 5% of the backers, just to make certain everything works well. Once I get those surveys back, I'll release the rest of them, so look for them toward the end of this week!
In other news, Heather is starting work on her short story today! It's a great concept, and I'm really looking forward to getting it out to you, and having it recorded by Mary Robinette!
For now, if you want more queer books, make sure to sign up for Space Wizard Year 5 Part 1, coming in June 2026! We'll have 8 new books for you, as well as some new hardcovers and more new tea flavors!
Until the next time!

Project Update: Funded and complete! Thanks everyone!
And that's a wrap! The campaign closed out with $6,574 raised to fund Mary Robinette Kowal narrating Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before!
From our last poll, it's pretty clear people want the second Lesbians in Space anthology turned into an audiobook as well. I'm already starting to plan that one. Likely we'll have another campaign around September for Lesbians in Space: The Sapphics Strike Back!
What Happens Next:
We already have recording dates in May scheduled with Mary Robinette, and our hope is to get the final audiobook to you by the middle of June!
In the meantime, if you want more queer books, make sure to sign up for Space Wizard Year 5 Part 1, coming in June 2026! We'll have 8 new books for you, as well as some new hardcovers and more new tea flavors!

Project Update: One day left! What other Space Wizard books should be on audio?
Just a quick update again to say: we have ONE DAY LEFT in this campaign! As I mentioned near the beginning, this was an experiment to see if a small press like Space Wizard can fund an audiobook campaign with a highly sought-after, professional narrator like Mary Robinette Kowal.
And you all delivered! There's a potential for us to run another audiobook campaign later this year, so what do you all think? Should we run another campaign? And if so, for what books? Check out the poll below. This was from earlier in the campaign, but we didn't get a lot of answers, so why not check it out again? I've also added the choice for Lesbians in Space: The Sapphics Strike Back, as it doesn't seem likely we'll be able to fund both anthologies with this one campaign.
And if you need some visual clues, here's a graphic of all the books we're considering for the campaigns. You can also find them all on our Space Wizard website. Simply click on "Audiobook" or "Not on Audio" in the "Filter by Book Type" up at the top. I just implemented this, so let me know if anything looks wrong!
I'll be back tomorrow for the final recap. Until then, vote in the poll!

Project Update: First stretch goal passed! That was fast!
So...busy day today! I was going to write an update how we funded this afternoon! Yay!
...except we just passed the first stretch goal at $5500!
That means you'll all get a new short story from Heather Tracy, featuring a neurodiverse main character docking at a space station...where hijinks ensue! You'll have to read to find out what happens!
Should we try to have it recorded by Mary Robinette as well? Answer in the poll at the bottom of this update!
Our next reward is a new short story from J.S. Fields at $7500. Can we make that one?
Meanwhile, get some tea, maybe a book to go with it, and tell your friends and family about the campaign!
Until next time!
