πŸ‰ The Year of the Dragon is upon us! πŸ‰
Join us in commemorating this timeless tradition, cherished worldwide.

Our concept intricately weaves together various elements from East Asian culture, drawing inspiration from the adorably sculpted Dorei ceramic figures, the symbolism of benevolent creatures, and the exquisite patterns found in porcelain china.

This campaign will feature all twelve animals, starting with the Dragon, as Lunar New Year will be celebrated on February 10th! After, we will go in order of the zodiac wheel with the snake, horse, sheep, and so forth. But, that's not it! I have more designs in stock once these twelve are unlocked.

Digital Mock Up made by SunnyNika

Because the pin concept is a flat white versus the traditional gold or black plating, I figured a 3D model would be imperative to the success of the campaign! With this, you'll be able to better visualize how the pin is to turn out. Keep in mind that it is a digital render and the colors/print/texture isn't entirely 1:1.

Our second stretch goal will be O-mamori! These are woven amulets often worn and carried by an individual for protection or luck. In modern days, o-mamori boasts many cute designs, such as these Zodiac creatures, while still continuously blessing the wearer.

I use 成θͺž, "chengyu" or idioms, for the backside of the o-mamori. I tried my best to have them associated best with the animals. Direct reference to the animals came off as a challenge as most of them were associated with negative connotations (Dog, Pig, Snake - come to mind.) However, every animal in the wheel had a positive symbolism, and by using their symbols, I was capable of finding an idiom that matches the animal best!

Note: These designs are mock-ups and the finalized versions will look different than the digital renderings.

I draw a lot of influence from Chinese/Taiwanese culture, and being a bit of an anime nerd, I draw inspiration from Japanese culture as well.

These designs showcase a blend of those influences.

Japanese Vintage Ceramic Figures

The minimalistic approach is an attempt to render a 3D Japanese ceramic figurine into a flat 2D style.

The bell is a symbolism of protection and to ward off evil, which can be found all throughout our culture.

And the blue floral designs is a play on the porcelain Chinas with the beautifully painted artwork. I chose to keep it simple due to the limitations of screen printing and how small the artwork can get, but I hope it translates well regardless!Β
