Help Shape the Next Lair Zine
Hey folks!

One of the coolest things about the response to Lair: Force & Freedom is that it already has me thinking about what we could do with future issues.

Since you’re backing the very first Lair Zine, I’d love to get your input!

The original Lair Magazine was overwhelmingly focused on material for dungeon masters, and that will always be a big part of Lair Zine. But the new format gives us room to experiment with the mix a little more.

So, for a future issue, what would you like to see MORE of in Lair Zine?
  • Full-length adventures
  • Short adventures
  • Monsters
  • Player options
  • Or something else?

Vote in the poll below or leave a comment if it's something not listed! Your answers will help me think about what future issues might look like.

Quick Campaign Reminder

Soon after launch, I added the new Lair Zine Ultimate Bundle after seeing how many people were adding the old Lair Magazine back issues to their pledges.

This bundle includes Lair: Force & Freedom plus all five years of Lair Magazine back issues in one package.

If you’ve ever wanted the complete Lair Magazine archive, this is going to be the lowest price I ever offer it at, so be sure to check out the new tier if you’re interested in upgrading your pledge.

Thanks again for backing the first Lair Zine. I’m really excited to see what you all want more of!

What Are You Stealing First?
Hey folks!

We’re a few days into the campaign now, and I just want to say again how much I appreciate the support you’ve shown Lair: Force & Freedom so far.

New Pledge Tiers! Given the popularity of the Lair Magazine 2021-2025 addon, I decided to create two new pledge tiers that bundle that addon with your pledge (and save folks some money!). So, if you got that addon in the first day, feel free to update your pledge tier to take advantage of the savings!

Now, one of the things I’ve always loved about making books like this is knowing that different GMs are going to use them in completely different ways.
  • Some of you might grab one of the full-length adventures and run it almost as written.
  • Others might pull out one of the short adventures when your players wander somewhere you weren’t expecting.
  • Some of you are probably already looking through the monster list thinking, "Yep. My players are fighting that."
  • And then there are the player options, which might end up inspiring an entirely new character before the book even hits the table.

So I’m curious:

What are you most likely to steal for your campaign first? Vote in the poll below!

And thanks again for helping us get the first printed Lair Zine off to such a strong start. I’m really excited to get this one into your hands!

-Luke

Fully Funded! Thank You!!!
As we roll into just the second day of the project, we're sitting at nearly 200% funded.

So amazing. Thank you all so much!!! :D

Help us spread the word by sharing on X and Facebook! At the bottom of this update we have two new achievements we're trying to reach: 100 shares on X and Facebook. Just click the buttons down there to share the project with others. This will help us let more people know about this cool project!

Engagement helps, too! Remember that "engagement" on crowdfunding projects (comments, likes, and votes on polls) all send good signals to the algorithm and help our project get in front of others. At the bottom of this post we have a new engagement achievement we're trying to reach. Click "join the conversation" down there to leave a comment on the project and vote on all our polls—I've done several leading up to launch; you can vote on them at the bottom of past updates.

Seeing the results after just day one, I was literally walking my dog this morning while thinking about what we could do for the next issue of Lair Zine. It's super encouraging to such a strong response on day one.

Anyway, that's it from me for now. I just wanted to thank you all! :D

-Luke

My Favorite Class Just Got Weirder
It’s no secret that rogues have always been my favorite class in D&D. So, when we decided the new printed Lair Zines would give us more room to explore player options, I knew exactly where I wanted to start.

Meet the Stitcher, a new rogue subclass in Lair: Force & Freedom.

Rogues Don’t Have to Work Alone

Stitchers take inspiration from golems and mechanical soldiers and piece together a stitched homunculus companion from once-living flesh.

Your homunculus fights alongside you, follows your commands, and helps set up your attacks. You even decide what it looks like and whether it’s Small or Medium.

And as you gain levels, things get even stranger.

Upgrade Your Creation

At higher levels, you can graft new abilities onto your homunculus, including:
  • Flight
  • Improved armor
  • Elemental damage

Eventually, you can link your consciousness directly to it, communicate telepathically, and even see and hear through its senses.

And at very high levels?

Let’s just say your little friend can become considerably more... explosive.

Something New for Lair Zine

The original Lair Magazine was overwhelmingly focused on helping game masters. Adventures. Monsters. Encounters. Traps. Puzzles. That’s still a huge part of what Lair Zine is about, but the new printed line also gives us the opportunity to explore player options in a way we rarely did before.

And the Stitcher is exactly the kind of thing I want to do more of: useful mechanically, but weird enough to immediately inspire a character and a story.

Launching Soon!

If you’re already following Lair: Force & Freedom, thank you. And if you’re not following yet, hit the follow button so you're notified when we launch on October 6.

Don't forget, secure the exclusive Foundried playable race by placing a $1 reservation before we launch!

See you in the Lair,

-Luke

Would Your Players Take the Witch's Deal?
Appia finally had clean water again.

Then Mömielle arrived.

In Appia’s Hope, one of the full-length adventures in Lair: Force & Freedom, the town of Appia is facing another water crisis. A machine was supposed to keep the water clean and flowing, but now a wandering witch named Mömielle has taken control of the complex that houses it.

At first, she seemed like a nuisance. Then she started tampering with the machine. Now the water supply is failing, the town is running out of options, and the heroes are sent to remove her before Appia is pushed back into disaster.

But Mömielle isn’t just smashing the machine for the fun of it. She wants to understand it. Replicate it. Sell it. Control it. And when the heroes finally confront her, she may offer them a cut.

That’s the part I love, because this adventure isn’t just “go fight the witch.” The players have to decide what kind of heroes they actually are!

  • Do they defeat Mömielle and protect Appia?
  • Do they repair the machine and leave the town better than they found it?
  • Or do they take the witch’s deal?

Appia’s Hope is exactly the kind of adventure I loved creating for Lair Magazine: strange, focused, table-ready, and full of choices that can go sideways fast.

And now we’re finally bringing that spirit to print with Lair: Force & Freedom, our first printed Lair Zine.
Inside, you’ll find:

  • 3 full-length adventures
  • 5 short adventures
  • 15 new monsters
  • 2 new player options

If this sounds useful for your table, follow the project today.

And if you reserve before launch for just $1, you’ll also secure the exclusive Foundried playable race, available only to those who reserve before launch.

Meet Mömielle!

Can Your Players Break the Siege?
The City of Edgerton is about to fall.

For 43 days, the Wayfinders have surrounded the mountain city, blocked its only exits, and battered its defenses with siege engines. Food is running low. Disease is coming. And unless someone breaks the siege soon, Edgerton is doomed.

That’s where the heroes come in.

Not Just Another Combat Mission

One of the things I love about The Siege of Edgerton is that it gives the players multiple ways to solve the problem. They don’t have to simply charge into the enemy camp and fight everything in sight. They can. But they don’t have to.

Several Ways to Break the Siege

Depending on how your players approach the adventure, they might:
  • Sneak behind enemy lines and capture or assassinate the Wayfinder captain
  • Negotiate with the mercenaries and discover why the siege began
  • Work with a spy guild to sabotage the enemy’s ballistae, trebuchets, and supplies
  • Bluff their way through the Wayfinder camp
  • Solve a puzzle to uncover the passphrase that gets them into the general’s tent

I love adventures like this because the players get to choose the plan. And when players choose the plan, they’re usually much more invested in what happens next.

Inside the Wayfinder Camp

Once the characters reach the Wayfinder barricade, the adventure opens up into an enemy camp full of opportunities and complications.

There are suspicious scouts, dangerous siege engines, a trapped bridge, a swaying watchtower, supply wagons, and a general’s tent where the characters might uncover the real reason Edgerton was attacked. There’s even a sword puzzle that can help the party impersonate the merchants who hired the Wayfinders in the first place.

Of course, if the players make too much noise, start too many fights, or sabotage too much equipment, the camp becomes more alert.

And that means things get more dangerous.

Why This Adventure Excites Me

The Siege of Edgerton is exactly the kind of adventure I like to run. It has action, danger, NPCs, roleplaying, stealth, sabotage, puzzles, and meaningful choices.

Every group might handle it differently, too.

One party might talk its way into the general’s tent. Another might burn the siege engines and flee into the night. Another might try to turn the Wayfinders against their own leaders.

That’s the fun of it.

Coming in Lair: Force & Freedom

The Siege of Edgerton is one of the full-length adventures included in Lair: Force & Freedom, our first printed Lair Zine.

The issue includes:
  • 3 full-length adventures
  • 5 short adventures
  • 15 new monsters
  • 2 new player options

It’s designed to give game masters ready-to-run material they can bring to the table with less prep and more confidence.

Reserve Before Launch

If adventures like The Siege of Edgerton sound useful for your table, be sure to follow the project today.

And if you reserve before launch for just $1, you’ll also secure the exclusive Foundried playable race. The Foundried is only available to those who reserve before launch.

Thanks for the email! Backed the 5 year lair magazine collection. As a DM I can never have enough encounters, adventures, monsters and puzzles that I can use for my games. I also play solo as well so having a bunch of stuff helps with that also!

Hi Sadly had to pledge at the digital level as it seems that there's no option for UK backers to acquire the physical copy. No dramas though looking forward to seeing what's in there and how i'm going to use it. Kind Regards Darren
