Surveys will be landing in your inbox shortly. Please fill them out as soon as you can! If you ordered ebook add-ons, they will be distributed once your survey is completed. The ebook for Cosmic Consequences will be sent out once shipping for the paperbacks begins.
The anthology is chugging along, we're currently waiting on the paperback proof copy. And Nicole is hard at work on downloadable wallpapers! Our preorder store is now open, so if you know anybody who missed the initial campaign, they can still grab the anthology and add-ons.
Our initial goal was to have the books shipping by the end of the month. However, it looks like we're gonna have to push that until mid to late August. It will take a couple weeks for the proof to arrive, and then after that, another few weeks for the entire paperback order to arrive from the printer. Additionally, I will be having a medical procedure at the beginning of August and will be out of commission for a couple weeks.
But never fear! There are still plenty of whumpy books to check out. I want to highlight Rattler's Moon: A Starslinger Tale by Kras Nebula.
Annie Hessel illustrated the awesome cover art for Rattler's Moon
Alida Perez had been living on her own for so long she was convinced that nothing could shake her anymore. She’d spent the last few decades building her farm out of the dead of the Wastes, and she’d seen it all: bandits, dust storms, rich folks from the next town over trying to buy out her farm to gain access to the mysterious flowers growing there. It’s a hard battle to fight, though, when gumption goes up against a monstrous snake appearing out of nowhere, size fit to eat the moon. Alida, her farmhands, and the mysterious gunslinger who fell into her raptor pen have a long and winding fight on their hands— will they hold out? Or will this finally be the thing to drive Alida from her land?
This is a post-apocalyptic weird west novella starring an immortal nonbinary gunslinger. The Starslinger Tales are all standalones, so you don't have to read the previous book to enjoy this one. Rattler's Moon releases on July 21, and you can preorder the ebook and/or paperback right in your survey! Also, all paperback orders will come with an exclusive map postcard of the Wastes, featuring original art by Nicole Alessi.
And if you are a whumpy anthology fan, we will be running another crowdfunding campaign for After the Hurt, our anthology exploring the effects of whump. We're currently open to story submissions for this anthology (if you're an author, you can submit here), and we've received some fantastic stories so far! You can follow the After the Hurt campaign here.
The campaign has wrapped up, and we hit our first stretch goal! That means that all backers will receive exclusive downloadable wallpapers designed by our cover artist, Nicole Alessi. She's still working on them, but believe me when I say they're super cool!
Proofreading is almost finished, and I should be sending the proofread stories out to the authors for final approval this week. It looks like we're on track for the book to be at the printer by mid to late July.
Surveys will be coming out either late this week or early next week, so keep your eye on your email.
We're nearing the end of the crowdfunding campaign, and we're 77% of the way to Stretch Goal #1, downloadable wallpapers! There will be multiple wallpapers, all of them designed by Nicole Alessi, the lovely graphic designer who did the cover for Cosmic Consequences.
I'm chugging along on proofreading and also trying to finish my own contribution to this anthology. Hopefully both will be done this weekend!
A bit of a late update, but we've hit our funding goal!
We have several exciting stretch goals coming up:
$1,200: Downloadable wallpapers!
$1,600: Stickers!
$2,000: Alternate whumpy cover for the paperback! We’ve had some readers express interest in explicitly whumpy covers for our anthologies, like what we did for Hurt and Comfort. If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll make that a reality and commission an artist to do a whumpy cover. You’ll get to choose which cover you want when we send out surveys (the regular “discreet” cover or the explicitly whumpy one).
I’ve been in the trenches of editing for Cosmic Consequences. This is our longest anthologies to date, being close to 130,000 words. I'm so excited for y’all to read it!
The BackerKit campaign is live until June 30, so we still have over two weeks to smash those stretch goals! Cosmic Consequences is part of the Book Bazaar Summer Bonanza, and there are ten other awesome projects crowdfunding as part of this event.
If you like dark fiction, I would recommend you check out Prometheus: A Queer Futuristic Horror Anthology. This is the first book from Snakeskin Press, which looks like it's gonna be a super cool publisher! The lineup of16 stories includes a range of themes, from biomechanical to cosmic and eldritch to post-democratic dystopian horror. I can't wait to get my hands on it!
Keep rocking and rolling, Kailey
P.S. Sorry about the radio silence on my end. It turns out that being put in charge of a massive archeological survey at the same time as a crowdfunding campaign is ... challenging.
