What is this game? You are a person who accepted a strange request from an eccentric man. Your situation is pretty grim and you need the money. That’s what Capitalism will do to you: accepting odd jobs to make sure you can pay for the basic necessities. The reward seems quite exaggerated for a house sitting gig, but who are you to argue. Some things are strangely worded in the man’s letter, like, what does he means by: “don’t let anything out.” Probably make sure no house keepers get lost or whatever.
