Project FAQ
No. Descent of the Ancient Fane is an overarching, standalone campaign that connects to Castle Whiterock, but isn't exclusive to it. It also connects to the worlds of Terra AD (Mutant Crawl Classics) and X-Crawl, as well as worlds by other Third Party Publishers. It stands alone and it fits anywhere.
We mean that Descent of the Ancient Fane is a dungeon designed with mechanics to personalize the encounters, dungeon layout and other elements based on PC fears and desires. This means that it's not an anonymous experience - the rooms and monsters in the Fane are specially crafted to torment your PCs. It creates roleplay rich, customized gameplay that we think offers something new to DCC and D&D 5e, and that brings the theme of "fighting one's demons" to life in a vivid and unforgettable way.
Yeah, for real. We set the price based on what we found on DriveThruRPG, and given that Descent of the Ancient Fane has a similar page count and content volume to titles like Free League's ALIEN Core Rulebook ($29.99) and Legends of the Mist ($29), we felt $20 is warranted. That $20 gets you tons of rooms, patrons, monsters, magic items and art, so we think you'll be satisfied with the price, my frugal friend.
We aim for July 2026. But this is our first hardback, and word from veterans like Stefan Surratt is that it's a 3-month process. We are glad to say that the art is mostly done; just a few pieces remain to be finalized during April. This means that we intend to wrap up layout in May, for both digital distribution and to send to our printer. We'd love nothing more than to have the books ready for GenCon 2026!
I only wish. It literally fuels my nightmares. I feel awful for many of our fans who have to pay customs and supply information. All we can do is set our shipping costs for Canada at cost, and provide the best customer service possible to expedite the process. That, and oppose tariffs at the polls.
Yes. We are almost certainly going to go with Goodman Games' printer, Regency, and we've literally asked them to replicate the quality of the Dungeon Crawl Classics core rulebook - the one with the swanky gloss, nice lining and good interior paper. And speaking of the interior, Descent of the Ancient Fane truly does have art on every page: Stefan Poag is doing 6 separate pieces of margin art, Jota Cravo is doing a ton of monster drawings, and that's just the beginning. Don't get us started on those full-spread level depictions.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
