Welcome to the blog of Walsingham Games, a publisher of tabletop RPGs and other amusements inspired by classical sci fi and fantasy. But why classical? What’s the difference between that and say, popular games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder or other tabletop RPGs?

It’s all in the Literature

Simply put, Classical gaming draws its roots from a mix of classical literature, fairy tales and real history. It aims to create worlds inspired by works like Lord of the Rings, the Space Trilogy, Beowulf, The Arthurian Cycle, Father Brown and other great classics while maintaining the elements that make tabletop games fun and unique.

This is not so say I won’t pepper these games with a smattering of pulpy fun! But at its beating heart lies something far more important — a storytelling tradition going back centuries, preserving the essence of heroism, faith and courage in the face of danger that made these stories so compelling in the first place.
