After forty years on the job, Eli, the seltzer man, was ready to retire. But before he did, he invited Beth and her big sister on one last, unforgettable ride along his seltzer delivery route. That’s the story at the heart of The Seltzer Man, a beloved children’s book written and illustrated by Ken Rush.
When Eli passed away in 2020, he was recognized as the oldest living seltzer man in the world. His route was taken over by the Brooklyn Seltzer Boys, and his story became essential to Seltzertopia—the book that later inspired the creation of the Brooklyn Seltzer Museum inside the last operating seltzer factory in New York.
This year, at our annual Brooklyn SeltzerFest, we launched The Spirit of Eli Award to honor those carrying forward his bubbly legacy. Now, we’re proud to take the next step: reviving The Seltzer Man so a new generation can share in Eli’s story.
