Project Update: Achilles & the Trojan War Announced! Help Unlock a New Achievement

Greetings, Adventurers!

Today we come bearing exciting news.
After many discussions, demo plays, and continued work alongside the designer of Hercules and the 12 Labors and Jason and the Argonauts, we are proud to officially announce: Achilles and the Trojan War

The next chapter in our growing Greek mythology game line has begun its journey.
And to continue building this legendary saga, we will once again be assembling the same incredible creative team behind these adventures:

Tyler J Brown: the architect behind these legendary trials, shall once again guide the design of the journey and forge the challenges that await.
David Schneider: shall return to bring the world, heroes and gods of the game to life through his stunning illustrations.
Ammon Anderson: shall once again be forging the graphic design and visual identity of this legendary journey.
Mathue Ryann: shall once again serve as captain of the journey, leading the project itself while charting the course of the Backerkit campaign, rallying Adventurers across the lands, and spreading word of the growing legend.

A New Achievement Has Appeared

To celebrate this announcement, we are unveiling a brand new achievement for the community to conquer!
As many of you already know, we will soon be bringing a demo copy of Jason and the Argonauts to Gen Con for Adventurers to experience firsthand.

And now, the Fates have set forth a challenge, should Jason and the Argonauts receive:
500 Thumbs Up on the BoardGameGeek Gen Con Preview List we shall officially unlock one of the missed achievements from the Jason and the Argonauts campaign.

Periclymenus, Argonaut Card
If you are excited to see Jason and the Argonauts appearing at Gen Con, and wish to finally bring Periclymenus into the growing legend of the Argo, make sure you head to the Gen Con Preview List and leave your thumbs up!

Should this achievement be unlocked, Periclymenus shall become the First Achievement Unlocked for Achilles and the Trojan War campaign and will be granted to all backers of that future campaign.

A fitting beginning for the next great legend in this growing mythological saga.

The Voyage Continues
Beyond all of this exciting news, we continue working diligently behind the scenes preparing files for Jason and the Argonauts production. We also plan to share the rulebook publicly soon so all of you may provide feedback before the game moves deeper into production.

Thank you all once again for your continued support of our Greek mythology line.
Your passion, excitement, and belief in these adventures continue to help transform these legends into reality.
We hope you will join us in unlocking this achievement, and in beginning the next great voyage together.

Until next time, Adventurers… may the winds remain favorable.
Jason and the Argonauts is now on the BoardGameGeek Gen Con Preview List! If we reach 500 thumbs up the Periclymenus Argonaut Card will be unlocked. Click below and give it a thumbs up and help unlock it! Must hit goal before July 30th!
Goal: 412 / 500
82%
We need 88 more to reach this goal.

Project Update: New Update with (mostly) art!

Hello everyone!

We hope you're doing amazing! We have a lot of new artwork coming in and we're "very" close of commissioning the official character sheets (the last test is today)!

There's still a bit of backend stuff to be done for the soundtrack, but it's coming! The tutorial scenario will also be starting THIS WEEK, so we'll soon be able to share parts of it with backers who have access to the DEV file. The actual cover is also into works!

Art

James has been hard at work designing new monsters for the book (and potential minis, who knows)! These new illustrations include development for the Witherman enemy, an update for the fallen Magical Girl, and the basic minion-style enemy.

A page of illustration development for the Witherman, including a small idol and personality tests.

An image of the Witherman's shadow with some notes.

First tests for minion variation fitting with various emotions.

Four designs of minions based on different emotions, from top right to bottom right: Rage (red), Hunger (purple), Sorrow (blue), Mania (yellow).

He also updated the fallen Magical Girl (Hopeless) design by switching around the scissors to make them functional and giving her a more interesting pose!

A new design for a fallen Magical Girl.

Thank you again so much for your support and your interest! We think it's setting out to be a really cool game and we're really happy to share it with you. If you were on the fence due to the price of the Hardcover book, don't forget that there's now a softcover version of the book in the pre-order store! (and the quantities are not limited)!

Project Update: How Foes ☠ work (in Deeds Drawn)

Hey all, I'm cruising right along with the card designs, and settled on something I really dig. At the same time, I wanted to talk a bit about how cards work in the game.

Cards in General
In Deeds Drawn, most of the moment-to-moment follows this pattern:
  1. Read the card's prompt.
  2. Choose your approach to solving it (using character cards.)
  3. Roll for the outcome.
Pretty straight forward, if you're comfortable with some interpretation.

Foes
Below, is an example of a "Foe" card, front and back. As you pass (or fail to pass) challenges, you'll rotate the card a certain number of times. If you would ever repeat a challenge you've already passed, you instead flip the card over. At this point, the mob becomes desperate, and has a new set of challenges. Beat them here, and you defeat them. Defeat them, and you get their reward.
An example Foe, front and back.

In the mix, are "Stat" icons (left of the prompt,) and "Risk" icons (right of prompt.) Stats help determine the DC of a check (which we'll talk about in a later post,) and the Risk determines the effects if you fail a check. Fail softly, and you eat the first risk. Fail hard, and you suffer them both.

Risks can cause you to exhaust your cards, making them temporarily unusable... or they might disarm your weapon, poison you to prevent healing during downtime, flee from the fight entirely, and so on. The goal is to reflect change the entire feeling of a fight... not just beat them down until their health is zeroed.

We'll talk more about stats and rewards later.

Let me know what you think of the current design. Thanks, folks!

We've got some revised sticker options and a question for everyone who qualifies for the Card Game Banner freebies: Would you prefer four 3" x 3" square stickers OR One 3" x 5" sticker sheet with multiple stickers? Whichever version gets the most votes by the end of Monday will be our Card Games freebie. Additionally, we will create a new addon for anyone who wants to purchase additional stickers.

As part of our Kindred Spirits Pocketopia campaign, we are including two social stretch goals to help improve the product that you receive once it is in production. We felt that this was a way that people could promote and share the project, whilst being rewarded for doing so.
