Last Hope is a dark Magical Girls tabletop roleplaying game, within which you play as teenage or young adult characters chosen by Unmei - a small creature offering to trade a wish for magical powers - to fight evil corruption in an alternate version of the world, while also balancing their mundane life, their struggles, and their relationships. While Unmei's intentions seem noble, all Sentinels eventually feel that perhaps these powers came with sinister price...
The stories depicted in Last Hope occur in the fictional city of Higanbana, a place full of mysteries and strange occurrences. Named after the spider lilies growing in abundance in the area, the city is located on a small island at the confluence of two rivers - or maybe was it near the coast? It’s only connected to the mainland by the Inunaki bridge, which is, quite curiously, used to arrive, but never to leave. Higanbana exists in a self-contained distortion; it can appear in any place, at any time, and no matter how thoroughly you look, you may never encounter it.

The Dreamscape In your Sentinel form, you will wander the Dreamscape: a world created from the collective unconscious of Higanbana's residents. This is where you will encounter the main antagonists of Last Hope: Shadows.
Born from suppressed human emotions, usually negative ones, they are mindless creatures seeking to corrupt and feed on anything they can find. If unleashed into the real world, they would kill everyone they encounter, without any regards. Sentinels are created to contain these creatures and ensure that they remain inside the Dreamscape, or stay in numbers that pose no threat to people’s hearts.
Corruption & Determination In exchange for your powerful gift, your soul might become corrupted. The more you use your powers, the more your soul weakens. If you gain too much Corruption, you might become a Shadow yourself!
Determination is the opposite of Corruption, and you can gain some through interacting with your friends and doing activities you enjoy. It can be used to cleanse Corruption, regain Vitality, or accomplish other actions that you may not normally be able to! Using your Determination can even delay your inevitable demise...

While we modified Caltrop Core to fit this specific game, we still tried to keep it as simple as possible to pick up!
The rules can be summarized by the following: Whenever you want to accomplish an action or use a power, roll a number of D4s equal to the appropriate stat, keep the highest and compare it to the table, or count how many 4s you rolled. If you roll four fours, something super cool happens OR you deal more damage (your friends can even help you by rolling their own dice and adding their fours to your result)!
There are two phases to Last Hope's gameplay: Day and Night.
DURING THE DAY YOU...
Go to school.
Speak with other students or observe strangers to find particularly troubled individuals.
Participate in special activities with your friends and create powerful bonds.
DURING THE NIGHT YOU...
Patrol The Dreamscape to destroy Shadows.
Collapse Cognition Mazes using the knowledge you gathered during the day.
When your character awakens as a Sentinel, their powers come from within their heart and soul. Their upbringing and their personality determine how The Gift affects them. Choose yours during character creation, answer the Last Hope personality test as your character, or let your Narrator decide!
The Heart you get gives you the basic powers you will use, which you can later upgrade and expand with completely new ones!

No AI of any sort is used in our projects, and we never plan to do so. All of our games are illustrated, written, and designed by real humans.
GenAI has a massive environmental impact, it is only able to vomit soulless, stolen work, and is used as a tool for fascist propaganda. We are firmly against the use of this technology in the creative community.
