We are about to close this campaign in just about 5 hours, and you are still showing this project such mind-blowing support. We are truly grateful to each and every one of you who has made this possible. Thanks for showing up and sharing this project with your friends. Let's bring it home!
Stretch Goal 3 - $19,000 - Two New Decks - LOCKED
- “Death to Tyrants” Mod for The Blue Way
- The power of kings and their lieutenants is not absolute. But it is enduring. You will not escape the Dusians. You know this, but you still have some power. You know of the abuses of Lord Bravn and his followers. The king will not recall him... but what if you were to remove him? Could you get someone better or at least more cautious?
- In this mod, if all of the characters find a requirement of Lord Bravn to be so heinous that they decide the death of the community is better than living under him one moment longer, then they can rebel and remove his head. The king will send a replacement. That replacement will be represented by a new deck of cards directly related to similar historical scenarios that happened in Latin America. This mod provides a more agency for players even as their characters remain under Dusian control.
- You are the Bàhki people. You have been at war with the Sàthani for 400 years. Your kingdom is surrounded by them. While your warriors have managed to keep them at bay, the tide seems to be turning. Recently, your closest allies abandoned you for the Sàthani. You are not sure you can survive without them.
- Working with new downloadable characters and a new deck of cards, your aim in this mod is to survive the power and encroachment of your traditional enemies. What is the preservation of your kingdom worth?
- This mod is based on the experiences of the Tlaxcalans, the Latin American indigenous community who sided with the Spanish. Its aim is to help people understand some of the deeper complexities of why some indigenous peoples chose this path and helped implement elements of colonialism.
These components are already part of The Blue Way Curriculum Guide, but if we meet this goal, we will be able to produce the two new decks in all of their glory! We have just about a day left -- let's go!!!
Happy Friday! We have two bits of bonus content to share with you!
First, we couldn't wait to show you a brand-new piece of art from the talented Samuel Araya, and a very special one, too! This is the unfinalized art for The Castaway character sheet which you helped us unlock by meeting the first stretch goal. Speaking of which...
We are excited to unlock all of the wonderful things bundled up in the second stretch goal, including a physical version of The New Way by Allen White! Curious about this new game? Read a designer Q&A at https://cmichpress.com/2026/07/09/the-new-way-designer-allen-white-qa/, then make your pledge and help us hit that second goal!
We still have time! Share this campaign, tell your friends, and let's smash through another stretch goal together!
Thank you for your continued support! We want to alert you to two opportunities this week to do some playtesting with us if we're lucky enough to be near you. Sorry for the short turn around time, but our schedules were a bit in flux. We really hope we get a chance to see you at one of these events if you can make it, though!
Thursday, July 9th, 7pm - 10pm, Gather and Game, Buffalo, NY
We will be in Buffalo with the Reacting to the Past Game Development Conference and Gather and Game has been kind enough to host us for playtesting. We will have the Blue Way, one of the alternate decks, and all of the current characters. We will also have Allen White, designer of the New Way, with us, so you'll have a chance to meet some of the designers (alas, Jason cannot be there).
Friday, July 10th, 5pm-7pm, Modern Explorers Guild, Midland, MI
We will be hosting Break Our Games back at Modern Explorer's Guild in Midland, MI, one of our local brick and mortar stores. We won't have the New Way here, but we'll have the Blue Way and you can get a sneak peek at some of our other future games!
Happy gaming!

We have even MORE cool bonus features on the horizon for this campaign. Keep up the support and we'll unlock the second stretch goal yet!

20+ projects backed in 2026
Engaged with this project 3+ times 🌟
Hi I'm happy to be a backer of The Blue Way. The mention of the Norman conquest and harrying of the North particularly resonated with me, because (even almost a thousand years later) its effects are written into my lived local landscape and culture. My question is: I've thought about adding on a copy of Dog Eat Dog. Is there anywhere to read a thorough review (SUaSD one is very vague and thin), or where I can see/hear a good playthru of the game? I could only find one on YouTube, in which the men playing had set-up some offensively reductive comedy tropes about tribes of primitive headhunters being dominated by big, white women from across the sea, that made the whole thing sound like a US frat version of 'Carry On Up the Jungle.' They did laugh enough to lead me to believe they were having fun, which is fair enough. It was their gaming night. But I'm not sure I'm interested if Dog Eat Dog is so freeform that it is likely to turn into a puerile farce of ill-informed stereotypes from first set-up. Effectively reinforcing ignorance rather than helping better understanding of a subject and setting, of which players might know little.
