Project FAQ
We'll do our best to answer all your questions. Please note that you can reach us directly via the community tab here on Backerkit, or via the Chaosium Discord. (https://discord.gg/phXSCzd7Sj). All our FAQ questions are tagged. Here's what those tags mean: CAMPAIGN: Questions about Backerkit, logistics, payment, and delivery. GAME: Questions about Time Without Tide. Including rules questions, or what's featured in the books/products. WORLD: Questions about the game setting.
You can. Backerkit has a pay over time feature. Find out more here: https://help.backerkit.com/article/805-pay-over-time
You can! Edit your order in your Backerkit pledge manager.
Backerkit charges your account on the last day of the campaign. That's September 22nd. Your time zone will slightly impact this.
First, you can download the Quickstart right now. For all the other items: - Digital Editions will get sent out the moment they're ready. - Physical Editions will arrive AT THE LATEST one year from the campaign completion date (September 2027).
No. It doesn't. The only way AI art or text will appear in Time Without Tide if it's put in without us knowing. For example, because of an unwanted, on-by-default Adobe update (https://www.wargamer.com/time-without-tide/dnd-rival-chaosium-removes-rogue-ai-descriptions).
No, but kind of. There's no way to back multiple levels but everything in the pledges is available as an add-on, so you can customize your order to suit you.
For now, just English. We'd like to support more eventually, and Chaosium certainly has a lot of great versions in several languages, but that's a longer term project.
For now, just Roll20. As with our supported languages, we hope to add more down the line.
You can reach us on the Chaosium Discord or via the community tab on Backerkit. (https://discord.gg/phXSCzd7Sj).
It's a D6, dice pool system. Roll a combination of traits and skills for outcome resolution. Advance your character over time by spending XP.
No. You get a starting background, but it won't lock you out of anything mechanically. It just determines your initial traits and skills.
It isn't. We love and work on BRP games, but this is something different. Some people say Time Without Tide feels like a BRP game. Some don't. You be the judge.
It depends. You can keep things light with theatre of the mind, or you can bust out your maps, minis, and best rules-lawyering attire. It's simple to pick up and difficult to master.
Travel is a big part of the game. However, only the journey out matters. All Delvers carry a relay, a special artifact from a bygone age that lets them teleport back to set pre-calibrated beacons. When you leave on a journey, you explore the strange world and push yourself as far as you can. Once you can go no further, you teleport home to rest.
You need light to fight back the Unknown. During most gameplay, it's enough to just be near somebody with a lantern. During combat, you actively have to ward each other, or you'll be consumed by the Unknown.
Yes. You can get all kinds of vehicles; from dingy dinghies to glorious Decadent whirlybirds.
No. The World of Fog was never Earth. There never was a Queen Victoria. The Age of Decadence just shared some remarkably coincidental similarities with our planet.
It's a cartoon horror game. It's a silly world taken entirely seriously. The stakes are real. When things go wrong, people suffer. Things just tend to go wrong in really funny ways. That said, it's your game when you play it. You decide the details.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
