Project Update: Funding successful!
The party in our adventure might have gotten stuck in the Abyss, but this campaign certainly didn't. We reached our funding goal! Time to celebrate another successful installment in the Fabled Beginnings series with more information about the adventure.
More about the antagonist
Baron Catenus is the owner of the demonic mansion where the party finds refuge from the storm. The baron is intrigued by the party like a bored demon looking at a collection of exotic pets. He welcomes them, feeds them, lets them do tricks, and once he is bored... he sells them to the highest bidder. They do well to not encounter him again as they try to escape their prison...
Even for a glabrezu, Catenus is extremely violent. He sees the default pincers of his kind as unrefined tools of torture. While they’re capable of great force, they don’t inflict nearly enough suffering upon their victims. He researched the perfect combination of inflicting pain through razor barbs and crushing chains. Then he took all that knowledge to craft the perfect torture implements. As a final step he grafted them onto himself to crown himself the lord of chains and barbs.
Inflicting fear and pain are the main motivators of Catenus. At his mock court, he keeps guests and servants on their toes by coming up with ridiculous new rules and customs. If you fail to follow them, he’s quick to anger and uses the many hooks around his house to rend the offender. Sometimes he also hooks a person to the roof to see if they can survive the Abyssal Wind Demon for fun.
