Project Update: Manufacturing Delays Update
Hey everyone,
Apologies for the substantial delay on this update. Our manufacturers have run into some unexpected issues and we were waiting to get the full story from them before we could provide this much needed update. For those just interested in the new expected date, the updated estimate we have received from our manufacturers for fulfilment to begin is the first two weeks of January 2024.
We understand that this will be disappointing news to many of you and it is disappointing for us as well. We had hoped that we would be able hit the November fulfilment beginning estimate and when we received the color proof in August it seemed as though everything was on track to meet this deadline. Unfortunately, when moving into the mass production phase we ran into issues which we had never encountered before.
This is the first time we have mass produced a slip-case which contains 6 individual hardcover books each with varying page counts inside. We prepped our files and set the estimate dates based on the usual manufacturing timelines of our Crowdfunding projects. We ran into additional complexities when moving from the color proof stage to mass production though which has ballooned our manufacturers estimated production time. While the color proof came out wonderfully, when moving to mass production, the manufacturer required us to make adjustments to our final files multiple times in order to fit with the different manufacturing process. Additionally, the slip case itself cannot be printed in parallel with the hardcover books to ensure that the fit is perfect once assembled. We were not expecting this alternate process and it has added weeks to the manufacturing time.
All that being said, we have now resolved all the issues with the manufacturer and printing is underway. We have a video of the maps being printed as we speak fresh from the manufacturer attached below *BackerKit does not allow video embeds, so we have linked to the video download below*. This is a small bit of proof that your pledges are becoming a reality, the process has just been more complicated than we would have liked.
Again, our sincerest apologies for the delay in communication, we wanted to have all the answers for you and a firm timeline which required resolving all the issues first.
