Project FAQ
We've created a chart on our BackerKit page under the section "Printer & Tech Specs" that explains the bed sizes needed to support the various builds for Modi Case. Here are those specs: For a Medium Modi Case build, you need a 180x180 mm Print bed. This includes Modi Cases that can go over 260x615mm and 150mm in depth per side. For a Simple Large Modi Case build, you need a 220x220 mm Print bed. This includes Modi Cases that are 210x210mm and 150mm in depth per side. For a 2X Large Modi Case build, you need a 250x250 mm Print bed. This includes Modi Cases that can go over 315x840mm and 150mm in depth per side.
No! Modi Case can be assembled without any additional tools or hardware. There are some components of Modi Case where you can optionally use magents, but that is not required.
No, we do not recommend printing Modi Case using resin or a resin printer. Modi Case uses many large, flat surfaces and functional pieces that have specific strength requirements. We have extensively tested with PLA, and only recommend FDM printers using PLA, PETG, or other equivalent filament types.
Most of the videos are made with the following printers and specs: Printer: Bambu P1P, X1C, H2C, Qidi Plus4: Nozzle: .4 Layer height .2 Filament type: Sunlu PLA infill: 15%
For the sake of this answer, we will use the filament usage of a common 2X Large Modi Case made up of the following components: Level 03 Modi Case Left Side Level 03 Modi Case Right Side 2X Modi Rack Center Config 2X Modi Beast Handle Filament Right side = 1,360g PLA Filament Left side = 1,360g PLA Mode Case total build for all of this is = 2,720g PLA You will then need additional filament for all the trays that go in the racks. All numbers come from the BambuStudio slicer App.
Here are the print times for a 2X Large Case with ~30 Liters of internal space. This is just for the case itself, not any trays. A 2x Large Case is made up of: • Modi Case Left Side = lvl 03 • Modi Case Right Side = lvl 03 • 2x Handle Type = Beast Handle • 2x Modi Rack config = Center Time Right side = 1d. 7h Time Left side = 1d. 7h Mode Case total = 2d. 14h All numbers come from BambuStudio app
A full instruction manual will be provided with the file delivery and will contain some common builds and print lists. During the campaign, we will record and share a number of "how-to" videos that we will post to our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@Mod-Innovations/videos).
As part of this campaign, we are selling commercial licenses that will allow small manufacturers to 3D print and sell Modi Case builds to others. If you would like to know when these files become available, watch our updates or join our Discord community (https://discord.gg/modiboxi), where you can learn more information.
The easiest way to think about it is this: Modi Boxi is like a kitchen drawer, while Modi Case is like a kitchen cabinet. Both are designed for storage and organization, but they solve different problems. Modi Boxi is built for maximum flexibility, letting you create endlessly customizable, open-ended storage systems that can evolve with your hobby. Modi Case is more structured, offering organized, ready-to-use systems that keep everything visible, portable, and easy to access during play. Whether you’re building a flexible hobby workspace or a dedicated tabletop gaming loadout, both systems can work together to create the perfect setup for your collection. Yes, Mod Innovations holds U.S. Patent No. US-12398748-B2 for the Modi Bolt and fastener system to ensure that we can control the proliferation of Modi Boxi attachments going forward for ourselves and our resellers. We have also filed Trademarks with the USPTO related to the Modi Case words, name, and associated marks.
Pay over time is an option offered by BackerKit to make your pledge payment over four (4) monthly installments. You will not receive your files until you complete your entire payment.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
