Project Update: The Battle Continued Through the Night! Seven Stretch Goals Conquered!

Deathbringer here!

Puny mortals slept through the night's darkness, the wise ones keeping one eye open to watch for an ambush. But not us! We fought through the night, and we killed, and the chain of victories remains unbroken. When the doomlich tried its puny arcane schemes, we crushed it over and over and over until it was finally gone. When the corruption giant grew large enough to top the highest tree in the forest, we aimed for its tendon and cut it down... the bigger they are, the harder they FALL! When an army of cannibal ghouls crept out from the graveyard, their quiet hisses breaking the night's silence, we turned them into another mountain of skulls. When we reached the inner chambers of the vile snakefolk sect behind the ghoul invasion, we massacred their leaders and returned them to the jaws of Sett.

In all these battles, we left behind blood and gore the likes of which will memorialize our glory forevermore! Not all of those stains were enemies, either. Many of you died along the way, but that was a sacrifice I was more than willing to make. And those blood sacrifices pleased the panoply of blood; these ancient relics revealed themselves to us. As our rightful leader, I thought to claim them, but I realized they would ruin my iconic look, so in my generosity, I've decided to lend them to you! No sooner had we cleared up that mess than a nest of deathstrike scorpions attacked us. We tore through their chitin and spilled their blue blood across the sands. And that brings us to our current opponents: a ferocious sloth of murder bears! Surely we won't be beaten by such creatures. Their spilled blood does not run too hot or too cold. It's just right!

---

Now that Deathbringer has run off to fight those murder bears, we here at Roll for Combat have some details for you about the playtest. We asked Deathbringer if he wanted to share it, but he hissed something in disgust about how "Playtests are only for the WEAK and PUNY. True designers get everything right the FIRST TIME" and refused to help. So here's how the private Deathbringer playtest will work:

  • The rough timeline for starting the first playtest will be in September. By then, Stephen from Roll for Combat will have set up a private Discord for the playtesters. We are looking for focused feedback in the first playtest with more interaction.
  • Playtesters will receive streamlined playtest rules and an adventure or two to use, and we will request they try those adventures in addition to making some of their own (since it's helpful to have multiple groups trying out the same encounters first to control some of the variables).
  • We'll provide tools to talk to one another and provide feedback in an organized fashion, rather than just chats in Discord.
  • Lastly, Professor DM will join in a Zoom stream with the playtesters every once in a while to have a chat!
  • We'll continue to refine the rules and test them for the final release in early 2027!

Thanks again for your amazing support, and we can't wait to get Deathbringer into your hands!
