You strike the focusing device; it shatters. The admiral curses and grabs the documents, touches a charm at his neck, and vanishes. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· You wheel around, but the ship is eerily still. “Perhaps he fled,” Karim murmurs—then grunts in pain, falls. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· A figure rushes through the doorway: the robed magician you saw installing illusion devices, followed by Mihri. “Daughter!” he cries, throwing his arms around her. “But how—Wait, we are not alone.” With a wave of his hand, he throws back the cloak of illusion around the admiral. “Get back to work, magician,” he spits. But something whisks through the air; he gasps, clutching his sword arm. Mihri grins, tossing a throwing knife: “Ottoman dog. If you wish to live, scamper back to your masters.” The admiral growls, and leaps through the window in a shower of glass, landing on the dock. “Your hidden isle has not seen the last of us!” he cries, then flees into the twilight. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· You rush to Karim, whose shoulder is bleeding badly. “Do not worry,” he winces, “I believe I will live, though my arm-wrestling days are over. I will not pry into your affairs… ‘Dioscorian?’ But I hope I have been of some help.” Mihri touches him tenderly: “My family owe more than we can say, friend.” ·↽✦۞✦⇀· You return to Dioscoria, Kösem and her family in tow, but it is not the welcome she might wish. You, and hundreds of citizens, sit in the city courthouse. Kösem and her husband sit to one side, shackled; the city council sit in judgment. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· Phaedra gives her old friend Kösem a withering look, and stands. “Kösem was attempting to save her family, but she betrayed our most vital secrets. The saving grace is that the Ottomans’ magic was rendered useless, averting the invasion—but our secrets are still in their hands. This is unforgivable. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· “Dioscoria forbids the death penalty, but Kösem can no longer be trusted. She must live out her life under house arrest.” Kösem gasps: “To never again sail the waves, or wander the hills… I would rather die!” The council turn to you for your opinion.
