Project Update: A Mid-September Update
Happy Sunday from Jaunty Goblin Central!
We're tumbling towards fall here in mid-Michigan, which means we have a blissfully sunny day in the 70s to tempt me outdoors, with gentle breezes wafting through the office window as I clatter away at the keyboard. I am nevertheless logging my daily clattering, working up the giant scorpions one might find (given rotten luck and failed Survey checks) on the most southerly island of the Drifting Kingdoms, but I have some hopeful news to report, so I figured I'd pause to report it.
The very good news is that our layout wizard, who recently began work on her M.F.A. degree even further up north, has expressed a willingness to remain in the layout game at least until Halloween. I suspect that will speed the plow as I wind down the editing process, which is itself going very well. Today I will send her two new chapters to add to the game book; a third is in its final round of edits, and I have working drafts of the chunkier chapters (like the bestiary, for example) haunting my desktop. I suspect I'm just a couple of weeks off my ideal pace, all things considered, which means autumnal fulfillment is decidedly in the cards.
The book is coming together beautifully, and if all goes to plan in the coming week I'll visit my wife at her office to finalize work on top-down regional maps for each island. While GM and player imagination will handle much of the heavy lifting, she'll help me add icons for stables, waysteads, and established freeholds, as well as some of the curiosities sure to intrigue Chancers inclined to venture down winding roads not often taken.
So it's back to clattering with me. I hope you all have a foretaste of fall on the horizon (my wife just came back from a trip to Arkansas, where temperatures verged on 100 degrees for four days in a row), and thank you all once again for supporting Chancers at a time when play, imagination, and time with friends seems more important than ever!
Take care,
Bill W.
