Dear Backers, After our well-deserved break and some time heads down in fullfilment, we’re finally back with regular communications! During our high-octane, short-duration campaign, backers received frequent updates whenever we hit major campaign milestones. Now that the campaign is over, we're shifting into a more predictable update schedule.
Once a month, you'll receive a newsletter via BackerKit containing the following content:
Our progress toward delivering your backer rewards
What else we’re doing with the money you gave us (such as talking to lawyers or hiring contractors)
When & where you can connect with FujoCoded LLC on stream
We're excited to jump in and get this thing rolling! If you wish to read the updates to all campaigns in a single, convenient place, you can subscribe to the FujoCoded LLC newsletter at the bottom of our website. The campaign updates here will be be taken directly from our company-wide ones to save our comms team time and effort.
Recent Progress
With guidance from folks who’ve shipped rewards for other campaigns, we’ve made some impressive strides toward fulfillment for those of you who backed our campaign. To date, we have:
Made a detailed fulfillment plan, including a breakdown of all tasks needed and an aspirational timeline to help us pace ourselves
Ordered samples of both T-shirts and tote bags to double-check sizing, quality, and placement of the graphics
Commissioned art for the promised bonus “Over 9000!” Boba-tan sticker to commemorate raising over $9000 to launch Fujocoded, LLC!
We’ve also started putting the money you all helped raise to its intended use: working on getting our shiny new company ready to go. Here’s what that looks like so far:
Started informally talking to the folks who contacted us to offer legal services—thanks for all your help getting the word out!
Researched legal precedent regarding for-profit organizations and volunteer labor to make sure we do right by our generous community contributors… and to make sure we can ask smart questions when we talk to our legal counsel 🤓
Began working on an “Article” section to fujoweb.dev. In the future, that’s where you’ll be able to find the articles we’re going to commission with the money you helped us raise.
What’s Next
There’s lots left to do, but we know what our next steps are:
Prepare the BackerKit backer survey so that everyone gets their rewards in the size, color, and design they want, shipped to them as cheaply as possible
Officially reach out to legal counsel to finalize employment contracts for future FujoCoded contract workers
Stream the completion of the hidden Sponsor Wall section of the FujoCoded home page. This will be in less than a hour on Twitch!

For the rest of May and through all of June, Ms Boba will be streaming only once a week while she focuses on fulfillment for the recently concluded BackerKit campaign to launch FujoCoded LLC, and on wrapping up the writing for FujoGuide Volume 0.
Currently, the schedule is as follows:
A lot of TBD, which are really “whatever we need to get done that’d interesting/educative for people to watch us work on”

Thanks to your incredible support, we can finally do something we've wanted to do for a long time: write a gentle, beginner-friendly introduction to the command line. This will require research to create a thoughtful lesson plan, but we're excited to face this challenge and get to work!
We have one last stretch goal to go: writing an article distilling some of the incredible advice from the book "Crucial Confrontations".
One of the most important takeaways from the book is that "behind the problems that routinely plague organizations and families, [are] individuals who are either unwilling or unable to deal with failed promises". In our experience, how to firmly (but kindly) discuss and resolve issues that arise while working collaboratively is a vital skill that would benefit our community. We all agree good communication is important, but we often don't know where to start when expectations are missed and conflicts occur. And how could we? No one has taught us!
Let's hit this last stretch goal, and add some soft skills to the FujoCoded LLC curriculum!

With 4 hours to go, we've officially met all our stretch goals! There's no words to express how grateful we are (though you'll hear us say it over and over).
We hadn't prepared any further goal, but… here's our final challenge to you all:
While we had stretch goals and rewards, this campaign is primarily to cover ongoing company expenses. Anything we raise above our target will go to our mission: building a kinder, more diverse, more collaborative—and unapologetically weirder—internet.
There's still plenty of time to get there, so once again: help us by sharing our campaign with your fandom friends, favorite Discord servers, coding communities, and anywhere people who want to build a better internet congregate.

This campaign took us months to prepare on top of working on our other projects. We're now going to take a deserved couple of weeks to rest, then regroup to discuss next steps and priorities.
Formalizing all our work into a company won't always be straightforward, and there will be decisions to make we haven’t even encountered yet.
Our first priorities will be finishing FujoGuide Issue 2 and producing + shipping the rewards for this campaign.
Alongside this, we'll start contacting the lawyers you all recommended (seriously, thank you) so we can begin hiring with confidence, and continue the work making BobaBoard's governance independent so we can finally onboard more volunteers and push the project forward.
There's a lot to do (as you can see), and it will take time to realize the full potential of what you've helped us launch. We're incredibly excited to get to work, even more so now that we have some seed (money) to help lighten the load.
For now we'll be taking a rest break, but we'll be back soon with new updates.
We've already expressed our gratitude a lot, but let us say it one more time: thank you, thank you, thank you. We made it! With 100 backers (104 now!), the "FujoGuide Digital Goodies Pack" has been unlocked for every backer, past and present, and upgraded to include digital assets from both campaigns! We can't wait to share our always-popular Boba-tan emojis with you all.
With this, we're super close to our next stretch goal: helping people be less fearful of the command line. And after that, onwards to our final one: moving into soft-skills to to help people firmly (but kindly) confront each other when something happens–like it often does when we work together!

Thanks to your generous help, we've found not one, but TWO amazing leads for lawyers. We've already discussed yesterday how difficult finding candidates who fit our profile was, but let us repeat it: this has been one of the most frustrating aspects of our project. Finding these leads is an amazing relief, and we can't wait to share what we learn!
Given this, we've decided to unlock our lawyer rewards. We're over halfway through our sharing goal, and we got what we came for! Do continue sharing our lawyer requests if you have connections: the only thing better than two leads is three leads (or more).
