Project Update: Access the firmware—a first look at the Developer Kit 🛠️

Dear Nostalgics,

Today we want to talk about how MemoryCore becomes a tool in your hands.

For passionate players, MemoryCore is a console packed with great games to dive into. For GM and developers at heart, it's something more: a design philosophy, backed by its own hardware and firmware—and you've got full access to both. The same system that runs our six games can run yours. So consider this a sneak peek of how you'll create original characters, write your own stories and campaigns, and even design entirely new games inside MemoryCore.

This all lives in the User Manual's DEVELOPER KIT, a section built for the kind of player who'd rather tinker with a level builder than press start on a ready-to-play campaign. (You know who you are.) Here's a first look at what it opens up.

Original characters

The User Manual gives you clear, structured guidelines to build a character for any MemoryCore game. It's a simple process: a few minutes and your character is ready to hit the table.

If pen and paper warm your heart as much as a retrogaming console, we're working on printable A4 character sheets for every game, each giving you a MemoryCore Character Board, redesigned to be written and filled in by hand, and with space to fit up to six MemoryCards.

We're also exploring a set of digital tools that would let you build your character online and export it in PDF format, in one click.

Your own campaigns. Your own games.

Whether you want to tell a new story set in one of the existing games, or push further—mixing the rules of different games to build something entirely your own—the User Manual shows you how.

The closer you stay to an existing game, the less work it takes. The more you experiment and chase something completely original, the more testing and balancing lands on your shoulders… but isn't that the whole point? That's the fun part.

The way we see it, you're building on two levels.

  • There's the design: reskinning the six STATS to fit your game, choosing which genre-specific rules to bring in, defining the framing of your campaign, deciding how the Game Disc drives play.
  • And there's the development: characters, storylines, level design, maps your players will actually explore. Lay down fresh content on top of an existing architecture and you've got a brand new game that runs on that piece of shiny hardware that MemoryCore is.

The User Manual helps you ask yourself the right questions at every step and reach real design solutions with a structured approach. Like any developer, you can be as messy as you want, but we'll provide everything you might need to streamline your work!
