Good morning, everyone! 🏡 I hope you're all having a wonderful autumn weekend. Here's a small update to keep you in the loop with the project.
All the funds were finalised last night and everything has been imported to the Backerkit Pledge Manager. This means I'll finalise the surveys and start sending out to some of the higher tiers and if those work as they should, the rest should be getting yours sometime next week. 🤞🏾
Mieoi has officially started working on the colouring page and I am so fucking excited for you all to get it! I know she's going to absolutely knock it out of the park.
If you follow me on Instagram (most of you came from there, so I expect many of you do), then you've probably seen me talk about comp titles for TWW. I also listed them in the description in the Backerkit project. I thought this could be a good time to talk about what those comp titles mean and why they are important and what you can expect from the story.
Authors often use comp titles to give readers a sense of the books atmosphere, character dynamics or story structure. It doesn't mean it's identical to those stories, but it gives you a good idea of what kind of story you're getting.
🌀 SO WHAT ARE THE COMP TITLES FOR TWW?
The Craft: Magic, bullying, teenage girls get revenge, death, and shtf. (Listed in project)
The Breakfast Club: A group of teenagers get detention and learn that looks can be deceiving, but end up as unlikely friends. It explores identity, social expectations, friendship, and the things people hide from each other. (Listed in project)
Life Is Strange: Max gains the ability to rewind time and tries to save the best friend she hasn’t spoken to in years. Teenage anxiety, best friends moments, coming-of-age, trauma and grief, death, mystery, and unconditional love all play major roles. (Listed in IG marketing)
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage: A group of four girls become fast friends over one summer before something goes horribly wrong. Themes include grief, bullying, memory, nostalgia, magic, revenge, rebellion, death, and unconditional love. (Listed in IG marketing)
These give you a pretty good idea of what The Wishing Well is: a supernatural sapphic second chance romance set in a cosy American small mountain town. It's a sweet, fun, and spicy romance, centred around a magical mystery that is revealed through flashbacks and adds a little suspense to the story.
While Safi's and Nai's romance is the heart of the books, it isn't the only thing that happens in them. These characters have lived through 38 years and they carry some things with them (who doesn't at that age?). They carry trauma, grief, complicated stories, bad decisions, and old wounds. TWW explores all of this alongside love, friendship, humour, magic, and 90s nostalgia.
I've talked about this so much before, but with the books getting closer to being in your hands I wanted to put everything together in one place, so everyone knows what to expect.
⚠️ CONTENT INFORMATION I'll be updating the full content information on my website this weekend/week. A short, less detailed list will also be in all versions of the book. As always, I recommend checking the full one out on my website if you know you have certain things you'd like to avoid. You're of course always free to slide into my DMs and ask for any specific trigger. It will stay private between us and I'm happy to help you navigate reading and keeping your peace. ♥️
Other than that: keep an eye on my IG, I'll be sharing plenty more about the characters, mystery, and Springwell lore as we get closer to release.
Oh! And if you want to buddy read, join the discord!
We'll have a discussion channel and I'm working on some fun topics and questions we can all discuss as you read. You'll be able to ask me questions there about the process and what went into certain scenes etc. We'll have a lot of fun!
