You creep below decks, following the captain, and find yourself in a hold lit by a flickering torch. At the far end you see two figures: Kösem and her grown daughter Mihri. They are bent over a workbench, Kösem sketching maps, Mihri crafting the devices of crystal and mirrors. A guard stands watch. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· “Look!” Mihri gasps, pointing to you. The guard turns, and you curse as you grab the captain, drawing him into a chokehold to keep him silent—but Mihri hefts one of the crystal devices and brings it crashing down on the guard’s head; he drops like a stone, and the captain goes limp. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· “Apologies, agent,” Mihri smiles; “but thank you for the distraction.” Kösem thanks you: “Agent, I am sorry I could not warn you before. My family and I have been forced to assist this terrible plot to conquer Dioscoria and seize its secrets. Don’t think poorly of us; this was the only way to save our lives.” She and her daughter share a look: the pained recognition of those who, with a slip of fate’s knife, could lose everyone they hold dear. “We’ll remain here, unless you call for us,” she breathes. ·↽✦۞✦⇀· Suddenly, you hear a struggle upstairs, and rush back to the cabin. Through the window, you see the admiral holding Karim at swordpoint. “I believe you know more than you say, Karim,” he smiles, “and you will tell me.” He holds up a sheaf of documents. “I have all I need: maps of the island, instructions for navigating the mist, illusion devices… but that Agent could ruin it all.” ·↽✦۞✦⇀· You have the element of surprise—for now.
