Serefina Yeshe Ny'O is a mother, writer, and Buddhist Witch. The oldest of nine children, Serefina was born and raised in Pomona, a small Southern California town just on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Serefina began her spiritual journey in 2014 and committed to walking a path toward enlightenment when she took her Refuge Vow as a Buddhist in 2016, then her Bodhisattva Vow in 2017. For the last 24 years, Serefina has lived in the lush green state of Maryland on the East Coast of the United States. I’m Justin, an author, graphic novelist, and self-publisher.  Aside from writing hundreds of comics and graphic novels for some of the most iconic publishers in the industry, like Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image to name a few, I helped develop a new Speed Racer animated show for Nickelodeon, co-wrote the screenplay for an animated film based on the hit video game Dead Space, and helped write and develop story/dialogue for Video games like Mortal Kombat V.S. DC Universe, DC Injustice, and Prototype. In 2019 a film adaptation of the graphic novel Random Acts of Violence debuted on the horror streaming service Shudder.     I have also worked as an advocate for victims of crime, a chef, a fossil hunter and a micro-photographer specializing in prehistoric insects and plants trapped in amber. Yes, like Jurassic Park only a lot less exciting. I have given seminars and exhibitions on the cleaning, mining, and identification of prehistoric insects for both the American Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian. I even went to Tokyo to exhibit these skills at the Japan Jewelry fair.   In 2017 I was part of an Eisner Nominated and Ringo Award Winning Where We Live anthology—a riveting collection of both fictional stories and actual eye-witness accounts told by an all-star line-up of the top talent working in comics today. All the creators graciously volunteered their time and talent to help bring some sense to this senseless act and, in the process, raise money for the survivors and their families.

I'm a mostly analog game designer exploring personal narrative, new human rituals, and collaborative worldbuilding. I am into the myths of nostalgic Americana, epistolary forms, keepsake games, strange divinations, and strange beasts. I make beautiful things, and I ship them largely on time. Most of my work is centered around telling stories with physical objects. I direct Three Eyed Rat, a production collective making games and large scale installation art(https://threeeyedrat.com).  My experience and game design work is rooted in my work as a builder and artist - keepsake games centered on the bridge between physical making and traditional tabletop RPGs, kind and awkward emotional connections, and new traditions and rituals. I am the designer and creator of the ongoing mail-LARP Space Gnome Space, the epistolary mail game Remember August(winner of Indiecade's Best Tabletop in 2022), the Space Hobo Divination Board, The Gentle Oraclebird (presented at Indiecade 2019 and 2020), the story-building embroidery keepsake game A Mending(which raised 190k in pledges on Kickstarter), and co-designer(with Jeeyon Shim) of the solo journaling keepsake game Field Guide to Memory(winner of Indiecade's Best Live Game in 2021).

A lifelong artist, I started my career as a freelance illustrator before shifting roles to in-house graphic designer for a major travel guide publisher and a feminist press. Until recently I made my living as the graphic designer for Girl Scouts of Northern California, now I’m back to freelancing and pursuing my latest venture—enamel pins!
