From the front I still wouldn't guess it was a luna moth. I think switching the main body to the green, and the neck fur to white would make it more recognizable. Since the green is the dominate color for luna moths. Can the eye looking marks be added to the bottom wings too? I'd choose the moon and flowers. What kind of flowers are those? Are they symbolic to anything in particular?

I absolutely would recognize it as a luna moth! And I say that as someone who wasn't the best at entomology but did learn a lot about insects in my time casually studying it! And it's easy to tell my taking a look at the pictures! Evan did an absolutely amazing job at caputing their likeness Actually, luna moths have a white body! And it distinctly makes them, well, themselves! Their main body is a nice, fluffy white and it's their green wings that can cast a more green-ness to that in some pictures but in most, it's distinguished! The green is only so prominent due to their chonky wings I think the eye addition to the bottom of the wings would be nice, but I'm not sure if it was cut to to manufacturing complexity! I think it'd be doable if it was in the same spot as where moonlight's circular spots are on their wings but since I don't know how tricky that'd be, I can't say And they're moon flowers! Moon flowers only bloom at night and in the evening, and stay closed during the day! It's because of the luna element in the name which ties in with the moon flower, and the moon itself, to give a more night time scenery! I think it helps that it pairs so lovely with the white https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160731386026672139/indian-moon-moth-indian-luna-moth-actias-selen-head-on-view-showing-feather-like-antennae_u-L-Q11Q3EN0.png?ex=6535ba57&is=65234557&hm=1bfb25428c8e765465f508958bac919d184f4e80d1c82342308dcbaa19138ab6& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160731426841444432/lunamoth28229.png?ex=6535ba61&is=65234561&hm=efc307e0a8fd6722ddfab0b0622f2e4387f7ee6ecdb1b080c6c34cd8c8f0e8c9& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160731469854027857/Actias_luna_low-res.png?ex=6535ba6b&is=6523456b&hm=f45040489080192acf970410244c2678b173e7e3f4b7c91141ba6faed894c55f&

I do agree on the colours not really making sense, though I would reverse it - keep the body white and make all of the pink parts the pale green, perhaps with the scruff of the neck a pale yellow to tie into the antennae as some pics of lunar moths do seem to have yellow on them too. But then that would no doubt make it just too different from the original poll, people voted on the pink and white!

I see what you're saying, and why its white. But with the actual moth the wings are like 90% of what you see and its on the back of the plush. With the body proportions changed in plush form the body being a bigger presence than the wings. The white doesnt read as luna all the much to me. There's several white moths, but green isn't that common. I don't think most people would second guess its a luna moth if the colors reversed and it would read better I think. Thanks for the flower info.

Disagree! I think the colors make perfect sense as they are meant to mirror the luna moth itself! The white of the body and upper arms/legs is what luna moths have! And the pink for the paws/feet also pairs with it! Even the face has the pink they do and the eyes have been changed to match the darker eyes of the luna moth itself. The antennas are the same color as a luna moth's too! The only really creative liberty on color scheme aside from the slight stylistic discrepancies is the light green neck fluff! Since luna moths don't really have that in the first place and Evan picked what fit the wings the best and tied them in, so it wasn't a sudden wash of green! I think that really looks the best! Some luna moths do have the yellow fluff on the back so I can at least see that or a light golden fluffy to tie in with the antennae, but I think the light green is just a more cohesive look with the design! A dusky pastel yellow would be cool though! As Evan here was trying to mirror the luna moth the most and made the changes to fit that! I personally think the green legs would make it more of it's own creation and species, far different than the luna moth which it is based around! Maybe if it were it's own species but I love the trueness to the luna moth and the attention to detail

I really think it's best as is! As these are all stylized plushes that will either be their own deal or try to mirror real life moths/animals! The white body is VERY distinctive of the luna moth when paired with the pink legs/face, as you don't need the wings to look at it and really determine what it is with all of that! To me, staying true to that is as important as having the wings green! Getting rid of the white body would make it look like another moth entirely! Which would be fine if it were it's own species or not based on one but it's very luna-moth-y which is what I love With the actual moth, it all depends on the angle! And the white still clearly stands out on them too and on the plush itself due to the larger head being white on the backside anyways. I'm personally looking at the body and how it compares to the moth itself, rather than color scheme alone! To me, a green body would read as a bad wing moth! Which are super cute and cool but certainly not a luna moth! <3

I think the thing is most people don't know the luna moths body color without googling it. Most people will say its a green moth. I agree its distinctive but not really recognizable. Death hawk moth gets the recognizable skull on its stomach, the maple moth has its main colors represented well. But both the color and the eye design aren't prominent. Also kinda want to see what an eye design would look like on the stomach. Like a creepy version. But I know I'm in the minority there. I dont even know what a bad wing moth looks like. So I dont think thats a common problem.

*Edit to my comment: I meant just the pink didn’t make sense not all the colours, looking at Luna moth bodies specifically some of them do have pinkish legs though and some don’t, same with the face (as below), but their bodies can indeed look like that so it’s all good lol https://www.raritanheadwaters.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/luna-moth-317901_1280-e1590154211467.jpg

I disagree there! As the white and chonkiness is quite distinctive on them! If you've seen more than one picture of a luna moth with the wings alone, you'll have seen it! It still DOES absolutely stand out on their back and is a huuuge characteristic of them overall! Most people will acknowledge that it, like many insects and animals and living beings, has a multitude of colors! The wings are primarily green, the body is white, legs are mainly fuschia/pink! I wouldn't classify it as "green moth" . It's a moth with green wings but that doesn't make it green. It's green, white, pink, yellow - multiple colors which is so fun! And in pretty much all pictures, the white body remains distinguished! It's one of the first things you see and in the first images when you google 'luna moth'! These are actually the first, second, third, and fifth result that popped up for me when I googled it https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160743375222362142/images.png?ex=6535c582&is=65235082&hm=92b54207cae2a777e2707942f89d0894d3dfba5fa0331fe1fa1a4bff5ec28b14& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160743508550897745/luna-moth-wings_4x3.png?ex=6535c5a2&is=652350a2&hm=8e4468c36ea4ee7828741e4b5e13a7af6a64815bc741fc6368481028802f5f69& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160743536463982592/85455257-56a709dc5f9b58b7d0e6347e.png?ex=6535c5a8&is=652350a8&hm=515da0ea0e16802f8d6f6e797b0d033a028e1e981cb5e1a3cb5b3056e3fc0401& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160743683457560576/Actias_luna_low-res.png?ex=6535c5cb&is=652350cb&hm=ec22cc551942c087654a8b96568a0114c9c6b1c9a211d4d04dbfed31d0f6e7f5& It's distinctive, recognizable, and VERY similar which is what I love! The deaths head gets its distinctive wings which for me, really sets it as what it is! And of course the belly badge matches but with looking at the back alone, I could be able to tell due to how unique it seems! They also still retain mostly matching colors, as much as they can with the stylization! An eye design would be cool but I don't think it fits their vibe all too well with their fuzziness and really cute features that many people like them for! Maybe if it were on the wings on the spots? As that's what it looks like on theirs!! That'd be super cool, complicated, but cool! And a nod to what many spots on moths are for - to look like eyes to scare predators away! It's not a common problem BUT the distinction is that luna moths really have a lot of white and have a VERY white, fluffy body that can easily be seen! I just can't see it being changed green to match and thing our little green tie-in is so nice as is

Can't @ people in the replies or directly reply so @ Formideimos The pink and pinkish legs are actually distinctive to luna moths! As in, a noted characteristic of their species and an indication of them! They do have a range and usually have less prominent, faded colors as their generations progress throughout the year (which happens in wings too) Most, however, have colors like this! Some have lighter and more pink-y but the pink is still characteristic to them nevertheless! Most images will showcase that haha You can tell that moth likely isn't first generation due to the upper border of the wings being a light yellow too, which is also characteristic of usually third generations (they fade in color) and moths that have been exposed to too much light! Which can have the potential to fade them due to their delicate color and scales. So that's really not a true coloration or how they should be and/or representative of how they usually are or what you'll see <3 Just pointing that out! It can happen but that's not what they usually will look like. You'll see many moths photographed with lighter color are in broad daylight and likely have been, when as a nocturnal species, they usually wouldn't/aren't supposed to be but of course, some will anyways -- that when combined with the fact some do have yellow or yellowish wings too and more faded characteristics can result with that! Nature is a sliding scale in colors and ranges! Evan likely just went with what they're most known for and representative of them https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/594365280415907912/1160746539623391252/DSC_6601.png?ex=6535c874&is=65235374&hm=89ea322bae5842a5fdb6de698c74224cba4b0e2fbcd8037e99e4101db41d8c5d&

@Mothgentleman well you certainly have me beat on your moth knowledge as befitting your name haha! :)

https://imgur.com/a/Sk1J2dV Did a quick color swap. With the white neck hair going down the back I think it better represents the white body of the moth like you're talking about while viewing the back. Giving the actual moth visual. While giving the front more of the color its primarily associated with.

Cas

I think the green wings kind of get lost in that color swap with the green body. It's too much green, and it loses the beautiful balance and contrast that the white body has.

I appreciate the effort in designing that and think it would be cool - as it's own thing!! To me that does NOT read as a Luna moth with the color swap or anything close. You loose the white fluffy body that the luna moth has, and that is VERY prominent and a characteristic of them that makes them themselves! I agree that the green gets lost. It's really too much green and isn't how luna moths look! I wouldn't see that and think luna moth. I'd think it is it's own new species
