Project Update: Fantasy Heroes Unbound AMA and Sapheris Sneak Peek

As the Fantasy Heroes Unbound campaign continues towards unlocking the free adventure scenario stretch goal $50K, we thought you might enjoy another sneak peek. Today, we unveil the geography of Unbound’s official world setting of Khromys. But first, we have some news.

Actual Play Livestream and AMA

Tonight (Tuesday) at 9 pm EDT is Session 3 of the actual play Fantasy Heroes Unbound livestream by Casters and Castles. They stream the session through their Twitch account, but you can easily tune in right from Unbound’s main BackerKit campaign page, since we conveniently imbed the stream here.

Also, Unbound designer and Dyskami chief Mark MacKinnon is hosting a live Ask Me Anything about Fantasy Heroes Unbound on Thursday, September 24 from 7-8 pm EDT. You can tune into Dyskami’s YouTube channel for the AMA, but once again we will imbed the stream on the campaign page if you prefer.

Ok, onto the Khromys sneak peek!

The Continent of Sapheris

Sapheris is the sprawling main continent of Khromys, home to over a dozen major kingdoms and numerous smaller nations with diverse cultures. They also have many things in common due to the necessities of proximity and sharing two great enemies. Faith, guilds, alliances, and traditions unite the free nations of Sapheris in a network of fellowship beyond the power of any single villain to break.

Approximately 8,000 miles in length and more than 2,000 miles wide, Sapheris constitutes well over a quarter of the planet’s land mass. Its societal reach goes beyond the mainland, with two major island regions, an undersea kingdom, sky islands floating overhead, massive Deeplandes caverns hosting multiple civilisations, and an inner world reflection (known as the Mistlands) that mirrors the continent’s coastline.

The overall structure of Sapheris makes it easily divided into three rough sections. Western Sapheris stretches across two subcontinents, one in the north and one in the south, each of which is an enormous region with its own broad culture. Seven powerful nations dominate each of those subcontinents. They surround the world’s largest sea, itself the centre of Aquelf civilisation in the known world. United, the nations of this region constitute the Kaphtir Alliance, representing free Sapheris. They stand against the Fiend Empire of Vasartok, which rules the continent’s entire eastern half.

Northwest Sapheris
Seven great nations resist the Fiend Emperor north of the Cerulean Sea:
  • Kalnora
  • Anitadri
  • Magnadran
  • Luplania
  • Halmakos
  • Tanuvia
  • Urvon
Hints of past animosities survived the Two Century War with Fiend Emperor Vasar to create rivalries that endure into the modern age. None of those issues divide the northlands for long. Although they compete in numerous ways, even coming to blows at times, all remain united in their opposition to Vasartok.

Southwest Sapheris
More temperate and arid than the north, southwest Sapheris is mostly flatlands except for a mountain range stretching along the entire southern coast. Both more diverse than the north and better connected, the nations of the southwest range from modern trading strongholds to ancient kingdoms. Memories of Antiquity are stronger in the southwest (sometimes for the better), yet on occasion that legacy holds dangers within it. The nations include:
  • Mayascad
  • Yasenice
  • Gishimir
  • Surhamia
  • Othinan
  • Daldhana
  • Nichikki

Khromys Map Pack

One of the products included in this crowdfunding campaign is the Khromys Map Pack, which is included in two pledges ($300 Full RPG Collection and $500 Deluxe DM Set) or as an add-on. This boxed set includes 16 gorgeous 30” x 24” colour wall/table maps that depict the continent of Sapheris kingdoms from the official world setting of Khromys, including one for each of the seven northwest nations, seven southwest nations, Vasartok in the east, and the entire continent.

If you’re using Sapheris as the setting for your Unbound games, the Khromys Map Pack is an essential accessory. Even if you intend to use your own original world, the maps can be easily repurposed as backdrop principalities or other regions the adventurers can explore.

Thanks for supporting Fantasy Heroes Unbound!
