Project Update: Sneaking You More RPG Previews

Wahoo Crawlers!
After all the excitement of yesterday, I looked at the calendar and realized the campaign ends in a little over a week! How did it come up so fast?

I’ve still got LOTS to show you and talk about so let’s do a quickfire stats dump and jump into today’s previews!

Daily Data Drop
Crawlers today is over 40k! Specifically, there are 40,343 of you out there. Hi!
We’ve raised over $9,541,511. We’re working hard on getting some new material up for the polls we owe you! We’re trying to keep it fresh so we’re cycling out some of the things you’ve seen before and giving you new things to vote on!

New Poll!
Did you catch the second half of our Mystery Mordi update? We’ve got a NEW kind of poll for you all to vote on. We’re calling them Sidequests for now (to differentiate them from the full Quests that are in the books).

Check out the attached poll and see what you might want to play! Or not play. I guess you could run a G Raveyard smear campaign if you really wanted to.

P-P-P-Previews!

We’ve got three more Starter Set previews for you today! The goal is to give you a little taste of everything so you can get a feel for the system and start prepping and organizing your ideas.

Game Master’s Campaign Toolkit

Please GM So I Don’t Have To
When my game arrives, I’m handing this off to our forever GM (he says he likes it!) but for this preview, players you’re good to peek.😉 We specifically pulled the pages about interview shows to quench some of the thirst for those mechanics!

Rules For Survival

First Things First, Fists!
Well, actually, the first thing is learning what an RPG is and how to play. Check out all the info about starting a new game in a system, core mechanics, and skill ranks!

Par For The Course
What are adventures going to look like in this system? Well, you can get a TINY peek at the Starter Set adventure, Par For The Course. We’ve blacked out some information that’s for GM eyes only, but it gives you an idea!

That’s All?
Nope! Well, yes. For today at least. But this is actually a good time to point you over to Dungeon Anarchists, a podcast started by two of the designers who work on the CarlRPG. They’re recording episodes as often as they can get questions so sending them your questions is an awesome way to get a detailed answer about game insights!

Project Update: FREE FLOOR 10 MORDECAI MINI Crawlers Number 40K!

YOU DID IT CRAWLERS

We set a goal for 40,000 backers, and you’ve crushed it. Multiple people pledged at once and that took us directly from 39,999 to 40,001 🤣

We never had any doubt we'd get here!

That means that all physical pledges will now include a painted Floor 10 Mordecai miniature!

We can’t show him to you, because you know…spoilers…but if you know, you know.
And if you don’t know, you’ll know in just a week when A Parade of Horribles drops on May 12! 😉

New Quest?
Already? Yes of course already!
Isn't there always something to be done in the Dungeon?
Introducing our Sidequest Poll!
This is the $9 Million Community Vote Stretch Goal- three options that set up an adventure but don't provide all the answers.
Maybe it's a one-shot session or a convention and you need just enough narrative to get your crawlers going. That's what these are for!

And Tomorrow...
Tomorrow will hopefully answer some of the questions you've had about the system. But it also may raise a few more.

Project Update: Ready For Multiple Pledges?

Helllooooo Crawlers!

We're super close to unlocking the Floor 10 Mordecai mini!! I have those balloons ready to drop the moment we hit 40k! Bonus Zev points if anyone can predict exactly what time we hit Crawler 40k... 🤣

In other news, we have seen many-a-Crawlers asking for the ability to purchase multiple pledge bundles.

Maybe you want to gift a friend, or maybe you’re just Agatha-level-bonkers and want to order 5x Celestial bundles for the bragging rights.

Either way, your wish is our command! We have added all of the existing pledge tiers (except the limited special tiers that sold out on Day 1), as add-ons! So if you’re one of those Crawlers who were looking for this option, it is now available to you!

Load up on the Legendary Tier! Get a Cartful of Celestial Pledges! Own an Unlimited Amount of Unstoppable!

This campaign is the ONLY chance to get all of these items (including the Renegade Exclusives!) bundled and at these discounted prices, so if you and your friends want to load up, NOW is the time!

And YES, these extra pledges DO come with all the stretch goal extras and unlocks. So you and your BFF don't have to worry about fighting over who gets the Samantha sticker.

Thanks for tuning into our update, everyone! And for those who are celebrating the best day of the week, happy Taco Tuesday! (Sorry, we checked, but we can’t include tacos in the campaign).

Project Update: CarlRPG Sneak Preview: Crawlers and Customization

Happy Monday, crawlers!

Daily Update
We currently have OVER 39,000 crawlers in the dungeon, which means we’re less than 1000 crawlers away from the Mysterious Mordecai Mini for all physical backers!

We’ve flown past $9.25 MILLION and while we’re ironing out details of our next few polls make sure you’ve voted on our $8.75 Million Mob Mashup Poll! We took a few of the non-winners (I'm sorry! Losers feels so mean to say!) and paired them back up so that they could get a second chance at being brought to gaming tables!

Monday Matt Video!
Some of you may have gotten to see Matt Dinniman himself this weekend at Crypticon in Seattle! Matt made a really heartfelt post about how this was his main con for years and he said that all the money he got from Crypticon over the weekend would be going to one of his favorite charities, Old Dog Haven.

While doing all of that he somehow found time to record a thank you video for all the crawlers supporting this campaign!

I think I speak for all of the crawlers when I say we're all excited to be getting the game! And seeing Matt play it live on stage will be a BLAST!
Hopefully not literally.

Crawlers & Customization
Now, you’ve all been asking for more RPG info, so for this first Monday in May we’ve got a preview for you! Today you get a special sneak preview of the Crawlers and Customization book.

A few select pages have been selected from the books and compiled into the PDF below, so don’t be shocked if any of the sentences cut off midway. We’ve got to save a few surprises for the full release!

We’ll get this added to our downloads section on the page soon, but for now it’s a special treat for all the crawlers who read through the updates.

Project Update: Who EXACTLY Gets To Be Unstoppable?

Heellloooo Crawlers!
Today we're back with Unstoppable! Although after our last information extraction we decided it might be better to just let the team behind the game write things out.
Much less cleanup this way.

I'm keeping my bit short and sweet because my mimosa is tall and sweet and I'm enjoying it. You guys really nailed it when you invented this.

On to the game!

Hi, I’m John Brieger, lead developer on Dungeon Crawler Carl Unstoppable. The development team works with the designer (John D. Clair) to get the gameplay ready from prototype to product.

As you may already know: when Crawlers enter the third floor of the 18-level world dungeon, they are prompted to choose a race and class. We wanted to make sure players had that same freedom of customization in DCC Unstoppable as well.

Your base box contains 8 Races and 8 Classes — and the Crawler Chaos expansion contains 8 more of each!

We spent a lot of time figuring out exactly how to mechanically represent races and classes within the systems of Unstoppable. We started with the idea of adding new starting cards to your deck, similar to your character’s abilities, but expanding the deck size made the experience uneven. We also looked at replacing 2 of your “Strikes”, which kept the game consistent, but testers felt like they weren’t getting the feel of being their chosen race/class consistently enough with just 1 card each in a shuffled deck.

Ultimately, we decided to divide similar to a lot of tabletop RPGS: Races customize your initial conditions, while classes give you more active powers during play that are more constantly available.
Races

Races set your initial starting conditions: whether that’s the ability to throw a perfect tantrum, an inclination for picking up higher level skills, or a proficiency for crafting potions.

While by default, you start with 10 Health, 2 Mana, and 3 Gold, these conditions will now vary with your selection of race — so make sure you protect any teammate who chooses cat!

Classes

Classes give you ongoing powers — passive abilities that trigger on specific actions, new ways to spend your mana, or powerful abilities you get once per level.

We also made sure that for each of the 6 playable characters (2 in the base game, 4 in crawler chaos), their canonical races and classes are playable. When you reach floor 3, you can always select the recommended default for your character, such as Cat Former Child Actor for Donut. Or, you can draw 3 and pick 1 for Race, then for Class, representing the top 3 picks from the AI for you.

Crawler Chaos

While full previews are mostly out for the base game races and classes, here are a couple spicy previews from the Crawler Chaos expansion:

Among the additional 8 included races are Infiltrator (which lets you take over an Ally), Nodling (which expands your starting character abilities from your extra head), and Lajabless (which gives immense power, but a dangerous drawback).

Among the included 8 classes are Shotgun Messenger, Santero, and a brand new class you’ll get to explore in the Crawler Chaos short story: Summoner.

Making and testing these powers was one of the highlights of development. It was an opportunity both to represent lore we love from Dungeon Crawler Carl and to expand what Unstoppable can do mechanically. Thanks so much to our many playtesters for trying these out; I know they waded through a lot of broken powers so we could get the best ones to your table!
