Project Update: Progress Update and Character Sheet Decorations

Hello, all you high-rollers! It's May and we've received more news from our friends over at Metamorphic Digital Studio about progress on the Roll20 For DCC project. Right now all the core rulebook's images are loaded onto Roll20's servers, which is going to speed up the creation of the compendium once the cascading style sheets are loaded onto the platform as well. This will hopefully be done before the end of May and then things can really get chugging along. Then it's time to start tackling adventures!

Speaking of sheets, the devs have been adding flavor and decorative elements to the character sheets while this is all underway. When you choose your class, the character sheet style will change as well. Here are some examples of the decorated character sheets that Metamorphic shared with us. Anyone who knows the great artwork that goes into DCC products will be happy to see that the Roll20 version isn't skimping on these!

You can tell this is the Thief character sheet thanks to the highly-useful rope and grappling hook.

When you're a Dwarf with a hammer (or an axe), all your problems start looking like nails (or necks).

The handy pull-down menu allows you to quickly customize the character sheet to your PC's chosen class.

Two staves, no waiting, for this Wizard!

We here at Goodman Games are quite pleased with Metamorphic's progress and we'll continue to keep you fine backers updated as we receive regular status reports from their DCC Roll20 team. We're all looking forward to the day people around the globe can hop onto Roll20 for a new DCC RPG campaign without a ton of work needed. More to come when we hear it!

And for those who might have missed it, Roll20 recently announced that Roll20 will be coming to Discord as an Activity. Yes, you can now have you Roll20 peanut butter in your Discord chocolate! You can read about that here.

Caverns of Thracia Returns!

Backers might be interested to know that signups for advance notification of Goodman Games' next crowdfunding project are now live. Coming in less than two months will be Caverns of Thracia for both DCC RPG and 5e. This legendary adventure is jam-packed with more than 100 new monsters, a five-level dungeon, a ruined city, an island archipelago, plus new magic and spells, and offers a year or more of adventure around the table. Suitable for levels 1-10 (5e) or 1-5 (DCC), Caverns of Thracia makes for the perfect next installment in Goodman Games' ongoing OAR line of adventures. Please stop by the Caverns of Thracia landing page and sign up to be notified when the campaign goes live. Don't miss out on this one!

Project Update: Status Update

Hello Everyone,

I hope (wherever you live) that you are having an enjoyable spring so far. I know it has been a little quiet since the end of the Purple Planet Horde campaign, so I wanted to send out a quick status update to let you know where things stand with production and fulfilment.

First the (not so) bad news. Unfortunately, I am only able to send out a single backer survey for each pledge level. This fact is going to postpone the fulfilment for the add-on materials, holding it up until I can get a single survey send out for the complete project. All of the add-on material is complete, so the survey results are the only thing holding up fulfilment of this content. I really wish BackerKit and Kickstarter would add a feature for multiple surveys or partial fulfilment surveys, but this is out of my control. That being said, I will commit to this: I will pick a date (approximately 2 weeks after the survey goes out) and all of my digital content will be fulfilled at that time. I will also ship the hard copy add-on product, so please return your surveys quickly once sent out.

On a positive note - Layout is complete for the main Random Acts of Violet book and I am waiting on printer proofs so that I can make any fine tune adjustments that are needed. The total page count came to 48 pages in an 8.5 x 11 format. I have also completed 90% of the layout on the bonus stretch goal content, with only a single drop-in adventure left to finish.

The entire Horde is having a big pow wow to hash out the final pieces of our group fulfilment. In case you haven't heard, all horde member projects will be fulfilled in conjunction with Goodman Games, as a single Purple Planet shipment. As a group, we believe that this will save backers money on the total shipping cost by avoiding multiple, individually shipped items, arriving at different times. We don't have all of the final details yet, but know that we are conscious of the rising costs of shipping and we are doing everything we can to minimize this for you. Also note, that for my portion of this project, group shipping is only for the Random Acts of Violet publication + all bonus/stretch content. All add-on products will be sent directly by me through DTRPG.

Things are moving fast and I am really excited about how this project has come together. A ton of cool content is coming your way soon. Game On!

Project Update: What's up with this?

What's up with Horse Shark?

Hey, it is May and I have dropped nary a word about River of Lies. What's up with that?

Fear not! I have been actively working on River of Lies between all the other plates I have spinning.
Behold!:
  • Back in early April I finished the rough draft and gave it to Jeff Scifert for editing. Jeff is finished.
  • I got a little bonus editing from Stefan Surratt as he has volunteered to give it a Judge's play test with a group of his own. Thank you, Stefan!
  • I've had Del Teigeler in mind for cartography since December and I finally managed to finish my rough maps sometime in the 1st week of April. He's got a commission ahead of this one, but River of Lies is up next. I figure I'll have sometime before summer begins.
  • About mid April I started layout for the interior. Spots for art were identified.
  • Talks continue with a fulfillment partner that can handle all the projects together at the same time. Joseph Goodman is leading that charge.
  • I started reaching out to my regular artists to see if they want to grab some spots. Many of the those commissions are underway. I thrilled to have a lot of regulars returning. More as those pieces hit my inbox.
  • I've finalized page count and paid for printing.

So things are going pretty well. I suspect the biggest rock is getting our fulfillment partner settled and see what the shipping/handling pricing is going to look like.

Netcrawl
Netcrawl RPG: Adventuring in the WorldNet

You may remember that Netcrawl is another project I am working on. I'm happy to announce that it will also be on Backerkit and starts September 3rd. Go and follow the project now.

Thanks for supporting the projects. Talk to you soon!
James

Project Update: April is Lovely on the Purple Planet

Hello, horde!

It’s time to check in on the Purple Planet and let you all know how things are going. The weirdling sun is as weird as ever, the kith are planning their next barbecue (don’t accept an invitation), and great progress has been made by those of us toiling under the Dark (Ascended) Master’s lash.

The big news is everything is in layout right now. Tome of Adventures #2 and #3 are just about ready to roll out the door, so work on the Purple Planet has been the focus of our efforts. The book is done with preliminary layout and I’ll be meeting with Matt Hildebrand later today to hash out a few lingering details. I anticipate we should have things sorted this week and can then push on towards wrapping thing up. Here are a few images of the page spreads we have finished to tide you over in the meantime.

You never know what you'll find (or what will find you) on the Purple Planet.

A Doug Kovacs' tomb map and a Harley Stroh guide for looting the dead.

Hey,, kid! Wanna play a Kith?
A is for Android Guardian. Kids' spelling primers are weird on the Purple Planet.

Just another Tuesday on the Purple Planet.

Meanwhile, Harley Stroh just sent me the final stretch goal this morning and that’s off to editing. The dice inserts are long done and Doug Kovacs is working on the art for the dice tubes right now, along with some other choice imagery that will be included in Tome of Adventure: The Purple Planet. We’re all extremely pleased how quickly things are coming together on this end to fulfill this project as swiftly as we can. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next update is one telling you we’ve sent everything off to the printer! Stay tuned for more in the next few weeks.

Until then, here are some new Doug Kovacs pieces to blow your minds and sear your eyeballs while you’re waiting.

Project Update: Digital Wizardry at Work

Hello all!

We're happy to report that Metamorphic is hard at work converting the DCC RPG rules over to Roll20. As you can imagine, with so many tables and charts, this isn't an easy or quick job, but the fine folks at Metamorphic are proving to be up to the challenge.

Just recently, they shared with us some details of the work in progress. We're greatly pleased with how things are going in just the short time they've been at work. Here are some screenshots of what they’re working on! . Check these out!

DCC fans will recognize that border pattern from the character sheets, now in digital format.

Anyone need a cleric? Maybe not with that much disapproval!

Heeliu, what do your keen elvish eyes see?!!

No dungeon party is complete without a thief!

That ape-man has magic missile! With a +12 modifier! Run!!!

And of course we'll need a way to keep track of all our loot.

The text/math on these graphics are just placeholders for now, so don't worry if thing looks a little wonky. We want to make sure the big picture is working properly before we get down into the nitty gritty details. Bear in mind, too, that everything is still in the early stages and what you see here might not reflect where things end up.

Once we get the majority of the DCC rulebook ported over to Roll20, work can begin converting the modules too. In the meantime, we here at Goodman Games haven't been idle. We're already at work on the cool art assets for the tokens and reviewing the module maps to see how best to convert them over to Roll20. This is going to be awesome!

We'll have more to report as Metamorphic sends us status updates and we'll share the news with you as we get it. Keep an eye our for more as we receive it!

Hi, it will be possible to add extra on the pladge? I found some extra money i want to throw at the goodies. Usually when i use a backerkit campaign there is an option to add extra to the pladge for a long time, will that be possible?

Project Update: One step at a time to the finish line

Hello Purple Planeteers,

You might be wondering when the fulfillment survey will be coming along. Because of our strategy of combining all the shipping, we need to wait for some of the shipping details to be ironed out before we can send out the survey, which will include the shipment costs. I promise, you'll see that as soon as I have the details I need.

I would also like to make you aware of another project I've got coming out very soon. My next book, De Re Mortis - an Undead Tome for DCC, launches its Kickstarter on March 19 at 8:30 pm ET. Those of you familiar with my past books probably know about my campaign world. While this book at times references some locations in that world, I intentionally made the content broadly applicable to any world setting.

This book takes a deep dive into the realm of necromancy and the undead. From the mindless to the sinister, various types of undead are examined at length. Zombies, ghouls, mummies, vampires, ghosts and even liches are each given new depth. In the spirit of DCC, each is given variations and options so that none are predictable.  So turn down the lights and come gather around as we tell a few ghost stories. Come let us talk De Re Mortis - about matters of death.

Game on!

Project Update: Long live the Horde!

Conquerors of the Purple Planet!

Thank you, one and all! As the dust settles over the bloodied field, and the gribb circle the sky in anticipation of their grisly harvest, we can only sit back and give thanks. To each and every backer that joined our mighty Horde and carried us to its triumphant conclusion: thank you.

You are the heroes of the Purple Planet. Your efforts unearthed a trove of new content for our far-flung world. Amid the treasures are new foes, new magic, new relics, and entirely new locations on the high plateau! (To say nothing of an ominous new Ascended Master, anointed with drops of Aqua Mortis and seated upon the Throne of Stars high atop the Ancestor Peaks.)

At Goodman Games we write and run the same adventures that we want to play: to explore ancient tombs in search of forgotten (or forbidden!) knowledge; to take up strange and powerful relics from a lost age; to lead hordes of rebel kith against the hateful Ascended Masters; to gaze down from atop the Ancestor Peaks, with all the weirdling planet spread before us. These are the adventures that call to us.

It's rewarding when those same adventures resonate with you, and doubly so when other publishers take up that same torch. At their heart, RPGs are most exciting when they are a collaboration between the artists and writers, and judges and players. Each has a role to play bringing the world to life, and this is where the magic is.

We'll have much to share in the coming weeks and months. You can expect new artwork, teaser content, sample layouts, and the beloved Squash the Typo previews. But until then, thank you for being our co-creators and for helping to bring the Purple Planet to life.

To the Horde!
